I was out at Motorpoint in Glasgow on Saturday for a browse about, and as you may be aware they advertise most brands at a heavily discounted price, but never seem to have any of the more desirable marques in stock.
Well, sitting in their showroom is a brand new 2003 STi8 in Silver with 0 miles on the clock.
The price... £21,599!!!!!!! An incredible saving over UK prices.
I know that the latest STi has come down a bit, but these cars were previously over £27,000 from main dealers!
The only catch is that the cars will be pre-registered, however considering the saving that you are making, I certainly wouldn't have any hang-ups about owning a pre-reg vehicle, what do you think?

Yes it does seem a good price. Personally would not be bothered about the pre reg bit, but I would ask the question on where the car was sourced from, in respect to warrenty issues. If the car is sourced from outside the EU then Subaru UK will NOT cover any warrenty issues with them.
Do a search here on Scoobynet re Car supermarkets / motorpoint / warrenty issues for cars sourced from say Cyprus.

£21,500?????
Hmmmmmm, what would you rather have......
1) A 3 year old P1 with average miles
2) A well used 22B (at this money anyway)
3) A brand new 03 plate STi8
Difficult one isn't it?

Sounds like a good deal and an STi8 in silver is the best colour - well, I would say that!

The standard STi8 is £25K - £27K if you add the PPP.

Sounds a good deal. Think you'd need to add a CAT1 alarm and tracker. From what I remember the previous STis Motorpoint had were claimed to be EU supplied but they eventually admitted they were sourced from Cyprus.

Sorry SU3ARU, I should have made it clearer...
When I said these cars were "previously over £27,000" I was referring to the bugeye STi7 which was £27.5k.
The STi8 was then brought out at £25k.
Still a good deal though, don't you agree?

Motorpoint called me back following an email enquiry, they are from Cyprus. Tried flanneling me with some bull about them having European chassis numbers so the warranty (1 yr !) was OK, wouldn't buy until I had it in writing from Subaru UK/IM that custodionship of warranty was agreed.
Also, I believe there's an issue with undersealing, someone else will have to confirm though.

FACT
Motorpoint cars come from Cyprus.
FACT
They have no Subaru warranty at all, only Motorpoints 1yr warranty.
So where would they send them to fix them.????????????????

So even if you bought an external warranty as is quite popular these days and had the car undersealed, isn't it still an attractive prospect?
And lets be honest, most of us have at some point had grief from main dealers over warranty issues which they try to wash their hands of. Perhaps a mechanical insurance package (external warranty) isn't such a bad thing!

I just bought a new MY03 UK STI, I did talk to Motorpoint about one, but was told they were European spec not UK spec, does any one know the differences? Other than having a small wing no type UK spec badge and no warranty? (They didnt say it was Eu spec.)

Initially sounds a good deal but it will be £22500 by the time you've added tracker and an alarm. I'd have thought you'd get a UK dealer supplied one for £23500 ish cash (including three years Subaru warranty).
Cheers,
Ian.

If a dealer were to sell for that price then thats a more attractive proposition that Motorpoint, since the car already has CAT 1 security, tracker, underseal and warranty.....
Makes me wonder however, where have they found this margin to play with? On the trade-in I would assume, so you will probably get hit either way.
Its the STi7 owners I feel sorry for, if they paid the full asking price when new (£27,000) plus any extras like PPP and the STi8 can be got for £23,000 from main dealers, what damage this has done to the "7" owners residuals !!! What would they sell for now? £18k maybe? Shame!
