Track Day - Warning!!
#1
Just a quickie for those of you who might not be aware, information from a reliable source reveals that there has been an increase in insurance assessors attending track days recently.
And seen to be noting registration numbers of those taking part!!
Worthy of note all you track-day users.
Glim.

I too agree with this line of thought, and hope this thread encourages those who do make false claims to seek the proper cover prior to messing things up for the rest of us.

Talking of Track cover I had a letter through today from Edgar Lawsons, Competive Car Insurance (The company I have always used saying the have a new owner but will be giving the same service THB IIRC
Don't break down at any F1 or Touring car events at Bristish race Circuits as Subaru Assistance don't come onto Race Circuit carparks
Also AA European Gold Recovery have an exclusion in their Policy of Nurburgring Area. So be carefull if you go to watch a DTM meet in Germany.

Track days are expensive!!!!!
They cost fuel, a helmet, a set of tyres (not cheap!) and insurance!!!!!!!
Don't scrimp on the insurance bit. I agree with the others, if you are going to track it then get cover. We are all big boys and know the score.... this is not the kevvy Corsa club!
Greenlight Insurance does track day cover for £65 a go (IIRC)

one bloke on overtime is not a large cost, one **** pranging his evo 11 is a large cost.
when i tracked my R1 i cancelled all insurance as the cost was so high (it cost me about 15k a yr to do it anyway and insurance on top was to much) HOWEVER, if i threw it into a wall i would have walked away)

Never bothered with it before.
It's big boys toys, if you break it - you have to fix it.
However I am now covered as part of my normal policy.

Well,
I went on a track day, crashed and claimed fully on my regular policy. Car was written off.
Took six months to personally fight my own legal battle, and I won, it wasnt excluded in my policy, so therefore i was covered. I got a full pay out too it wasnt a fun time believe me.
However, since this, I would be very surprised if any insurer now doesnt specifically state NOT COVERED FOR TRACK DAYS. My insurer at the time changed their policies literally days later to block the loop hole.
In my case it was an amateurs mistake, and I learned. Since then Ive taken professional instruction, passed my national race licence and atteneded many more track days and sprints.
Anyone who would now expect to turn up to a track day, crash and get regular cover would be an idiot - my crash was 3 years back, at this time track days were much less popular and they were really just immerging. My advice is get specific cover, and/or drive within your own limits.

Neil,
Track day insurance I have used in the past does not cover third parties. Has anyone hit another car and then had a claim against them by a third party? I would of thought that you would just take it on the chin and accept that it is a risk you take.

Wrong as in your not liable for the damage to a third party
In fact cars hitting other cars on track days is VERY rare.

you are on your own if you crash or are crashed into, you sign a waiver to specifically state you cannot claim against the organisors or anyone else at the event.
Note that standard Egger Lawson policies do not include engine/gearbox impact damage cover, if you stuff it head on they will only repair the bodywork. You can ask for engine impact damage cover to be added for a small fee, but you have to ask for it!!
With an engine costing more than most bodywork i strongly sugest you do pay the extra!
