Picked up my brand new Type UK STi last thursday, away at the weekend and not able to drive it again until today. Its so much different from the VW R32 I had before, flat as a fart at low revs, and trying to keep it below 4000 for 1000 miles is going to hurt!
The engine is covered in what looks like wax, once this gets dirty its going to look awful, any one know the best thing to use to clean it off?
Like the car though the paint finish is superb compared to the Golf. It aint half a "head turner" bit embarasing at times.

I thought the sticky stuff was to protect the engine against sea air (salt) on it's trip from Japan, so it's fine to clean it off?
In any case, sooner or later, you will want to clean the engine bay, so ultimately it's gonna come off
Anyone feel free to correct me on the sea air thing.

3000 miles on mine and I've started to clean the stuff off, simply because everything sticks to it, and it looks a mess after a while. I use WD40 to clean then engine bay now generally, and it takes off grime ever so easily. What's more, it leaves a thin film of the stuff everywhere afterwards which is a good thing.

"How on earth did you discover the running-in period and service intervals? Take a look at the "03 first service" thread, surely that's representative of spending £20,000 plus."
The service intervals are quite specific in the service book. Its at 1,000 miles. The Dealer (its a UK STi) also confirmed 1,000 miles.
The handbook also says not more than 4000 rpm, as did the many fine gents on this site, Thank you Gents.
I am happy to get it done to the book, I need to keep the warranty anyway.

IMHO,
Do not take the green coloured wax or whatever it is off the engine. I have seen previous threads on this where people have taken it off and months later their engine has begun to rust!
Engines r dirty smelly things anyway.
