Pulled up to pumps and picked up wrong nozel at pump and put in 95 ron unleaded in my sti8.
I did not think it would make much diff to the cars performance. But belive me it was as flat as a turd. It had no go in it at all.Its not ppp yet been done on monday.
I no it says use 97ron on filler flap but putting in 95ron sometimes i hope will not hert. But i don't plan on doing it again unless have no choice.
Has any one eles done this and did thay notice the change in performance?

I have run my MY01 Bugeye on optimax from new, except for an emergancy £5 worth of 95ron.

YES i did notice a difference! apart from the price

Dont think any damage will occur from this, i assume yours is a UK spec car?

Steve

Edited to say...

if your concerned stick a octane booster in your tank

I had to put it into my Audi S3 on two occasions where I was stuck and they didn't sell 97 RON fuel. Agreed the car was slugish when trying to drive quickly.

I assume you car is a UK spec as you mention it has a 97RON sticker on the fuel filler door. I wouldn't expect it to feel really flat though unless you are driving it really hard. If however it's an Import which was mapped to run on 100+RON fuel then it will run rough and I would put some octane booster in quickly and some Optimax ASAP.

With spelling and grammar as poor as yours it's amazing that you are capable of recognising anything in writing. Congratulations for not filling up with diesel.

I was forced to do this on Saturday in Worcester. They didn't have Super anywhere so had to fill with 95. I was very interested to find out the difference. The results...as you say very flat, less kick in the back (if any), but the most shocking thing was fuel economy. On a 150 mile drive from London - Worcester it took 3/4 tank on Super. On the way back on 95 it drank pretty much the whole tank. I was very shocked!

did this once out of necessity. Car ran badly, kept boost cutting, i assume because of the knock sensor and the low octane rating. Though mines an import so is mapped for higher fuel as standard anyway

Personally I'd not worry about it. Unless you're about to give the car a serious thrashing it should be ok. AFAIK the ECU will detect the lower fuel and will retard things back to prevent detonation (knock) and this will preserve the engine a bit for you.

you'll be fine.. after a while the CU wil tell its only 95 ron.. like it wil tell its 97/8ron when you put SUL back in it.

Don't worry.. iunless you want the fastest thing on the road.. put in 95ron.

I put 95 in my Turbo.. car runs fine... put 97 in it runs better.. but for the 'town' driving i'm doing i don't need the car running at top speed performance all the time.

if i werre doing a track day or RR day..i would flush Optimax through the car a good month before the Track / RR day.. that way the car will adjust is self to Optimax running.

In the P1 handbook it says... "Please use 97/98RON fuel where available, however 95 RON is acceptable but reduced power output can be expected".
I understand that the ECU remaps itself accordingly altho if the reduction in power is prolonged you could get it remapped at a dealer.

Maybe i can not read and right but i no when my car is flat.
I nearly ran it out of fuel and now put SUL in it and it seems to be going a hell of a lot better.
Used to put both in my my97(uk) and it made no diff at all.

Hope my spelling is better this time.

Yes you can use 97, it will make it go a bit better

Even my standard 01WRX goes a bit better on 97, but seeing as its mostly a "town car" it lives on 95.

Don't take the criticisms to heart, they are in jest and not meant to be malicious, after all, you must be good at something to afford a car like that.

Hi,
Anyone recommend an octane booster that won't damage the cat?
What's the recommended dosage?, Is it safer to have slighty too much O.B.mixed than not enough, or can too much also cause problems?
(road use only; mixed driving styles)
cheers,
DC
