Which ever one you buy , if you're going to get under the car invest in some axle stands just to be on the safe side ....(not bricks !)

I just bought mine from Halfords (about £30 IIRC) and a pair of their axles stands (£10). A UK MY99/00 Impreza weighs around 1300kg, so as long as it supports that weight you'll be fine with any.

If you only do oil changes, then get a Halfords jobbie, but if your into more serious vehicle maintenance and are constantly under the car, then invest in an industry standard quick lift jack and some good axle stands.

If you do have a choice, try and get one with a high lift on it.

If you are planning to do anything more serious than wheel changing etc, get the biggest and highest lift you can. Machine Mart and the like often have deals going. The biggest heaviest duty will save you lots of greif in the long run....... I should know for years I have struggled with little jacks etc for restorations etc then I invested in a proper garage style jack and it is great.

Anyway that was my 4 peneth worth so there!!!!

Oh yes and i agree always use axle stands.... I've had a jack slip and it is not funny!

Anyone Know of a trolley jack that is low enough to fit under front of Scoob to central lift point - with a reasonable height lift.

yeah, get a halfords jack and wait for it to break 2 weeks later. it's no good. the stands are fine tough.

look on machine mart or wherever and buy a proper jack (i.e. 2-3 ton) capacity around 60 quid onwards. i got one after the halford jack and it was about 80 quid, and by god the difference is immense - it is a proper piece of indestructable kit with grease nipples etc (ooo er!

steven - uses the jack *a lot*

I would advise not purchasing the one your grandfather had lying around in his garage and offered you for a fiver as it will slowly leak pressure and result in your car resting on its brake disc when you go inside to answer the phone in the middle of checking your brake pad levels.

Not that im speaking from experience of anything *grr*

Its like computers-get the best one you can afford. As Carlos said, a large capacity one is easier to use and is safer too.

Sorry folks it's a horses for courses job.

Little everyday jobbie in a blow mould case, change pads, wheels, chuck it in the boot 4 a track day £9.99 no probs

£95 prof one, high lift, strong & secure but won't clear the spoiler unless the cars driven onto blocks

Bloody great commercial brute, 6ft long and you can almost sit under the car. But as above and two people needed to get it in position

Whilst on this topic has anyone pictures of the best place to put the axle stands ? and are the std jacking points suitable for a trolley jack ? I', thinking it may bend the ridge along the jacking point.

cheers

Ive had one of these for yonks, but too scared to use it. I phoned the dealer and they said to put it under the rear diff, and jack from the back of the car. I was too scared, scoob did not look happy balancing on this trolley jack by the diff.

Where the hell are we supposed to jack from?

Either towing eye on the front is a good jack point, where the lower A-arm mounts to the body is another point. Rear, use either diff or towing eye.............
