have to say have had car 3 days and done 600 miles (desperatly waiting for first servive when PPP kits goes on) and want to say that i have had no other car that makes me want to keep bloody getting back in it to have another quick blast (went 18 miles for a jet wash yesterday passing around 6 or 7 on way lol)
it upset me greatly to recieve the car in horrendous downpour which lasted all weekend but amazingly i can say that this only added to my enjoyment of this amazing beast! i am head over heels in love

How can you enjoy yours so much before the first service? Are you running it in properly? I absolutely hated it when I was running in and keeping below 4000rpm. Totally frustrating! But then after the 1000 mile service 
WOW! Kick in the back! AWESOME! And I haven't even fitted the PPP. I guess when you get your PPP fitted it will be even more of a stunner. ENJOY!

yes am being very strict with 4000 limit but that doesnt stop me trying to line and exit corners correctly and just cruise around feeling as proud as punch cannot deny though it IS bloody torture your right but thats why ive tried to do so many miles (only 380 to go) so i can get thing serviced . One question - my guess is that you cant just simply go off and rev it after service - anyone got any guidelines on what to increase to etc ? cheers guys!

Believe me,as time goes by it just gets better,and mine is an old classic!
Yes just take the revs and power up in stages after the service, frustrating I know but your engine will be all the better for it.

What wheels did you have fitted? Are they 18" Speedlines?
I have a silver Sti8 PPP and had the standard wheels recoloured (now wishing I'd sold those and bought a set of 18"ers").

I meant to add that with the standard wheels it is very difficult to keep the brake calipers clean and you end up shunting the car back and forth a few inches just you can get a soft brush/sponge to the things. It looks like you would have a far easier job.

If your still running it in, dont treat it too gently like most people do. Try to open it up every now and again up to 5.5 or 6k. Also try not to sit on long motorway journeys at 80 or 90 mph, this can cause damage. When you reach 1000 miles, dont just use it like a race car, give another 1000 miles with some consideration. Most of all enjoy, you got a nice car there...............

eeeek thats wildly different from other views on here i have seen , would love to know the definative whats correct procedure so i get my engine to be the best it can be in long run without also toodling around for next 6 months

I agree, 1,000 miles isn't a magic figure at which you can start thrashing your car. Build your speed and load up gradually and don't be afraid exceed 4,000 RPM for short periods under moderate load, i.e. not full throttle.
The main point to bear in mind is the types of fluids that are in the car for the first 1,000 miles, they don't like full load so go easy on it.
After your first service your fluids will take full load, but the car will not be used to it and should be taken up gradually over a few hundred miles.
If you intend to keep the car for any period of time you will reap the rewards of this approach in the longer term. However if you intend to buy the STI 9, 10 etc when they are released then thrash the nuts off of it and let someone else take the pain of having an abused car.

taken on board there matey , think i can handle another 1000 miles or so at around 5 max and then increase from there.already feeling far less 'tight and restricted' than she was days ago which only adds to the anticipation

I swore I'd never buy another black car after having a black Renault 5 GT Turbo years ago. It's weird though my last car was a silver mondeo ST24 and it never looked dirty. My new STI8 in silver always looks grubby. Must just be a different shade of silver and dirt attracting finish.

Mate, that's a georgeous car you have there..
Thats the first one i have seen in sliver, it look's real slick. Is there any chance of some pic's of the back. Don't worry about the rain. Once it's run-in you will find yourself taking it out because it's raining, after all, thats why it's AWD.

hehhe just got very very very depressed today when i came across an old picture of mine with my first car , amazing huh how times change - whats sacry is not the difference in the cars , its the bloody difference in the drivers - first one i look like a turtle with no shell and the second , well too much wine and olive oil have take their toll

awesome looking car mate, the best sti 8 i've seen yet. i think the silver (or titanium!!) on silver looks fantastic!! far superior to the blue and gold, IMO of course.

On the running in subject though, Scoobs come from the factory with very light oil, so its not the physical mileage that matters but when the first service is completed and they drain the sump and fill it with the decent stuff
Running in should always be done at varying revs and speed, but I'd still stick to the 4000 handbook limit. A few hundered over won't hurt on the thin oil though.
It is always important never to let the engine "labour", ie low revs, wide throttle openings under load and its better to rev a bit higher than to let this happen.
Once the first service is done, the oil is thicker and better placed to cope with the additional stress of higher revs/heat/load. You should still gradualy increase the revs over a period of time though.
