fuel consumption??
#1
Few general questions about scooby beasts!!
Sorry to be a pain, i hope someone can help!!
What is the fuel consumption like on them (Turbo Models) i know it won't be great but i am just curious.
Anything major ever go wrong with them, that's common?
Do they come with good alams as standard or trackers etc?
I am talking about the older ones, M-N-P reg as i am buying soon, so just trying to find out basics.
Thanks for your time!!

I got about 25 MPG from my last tank, which involved a reasonable amount of fun in the twisties
It always goes better and does more MPG for at least a month after a good steady motorway run. (I do have some technical reasons why I think this is the case, and it's not a problem with the car...)
On a motorway run, I get between 30 and 33 mpg, while round town/playing in the twisties I get between 20 and 25.
It's a P reg UK saloon.

24mpg round town if driven like an old fart.
28mpg on motorways \ fast A roads
18mpg (or less) if your on a mission
Ignore what the dealer or owners manual says as the figures are based on a zero-gravity environment
Worst problem to look out for, is probably Piston slap (MY97). Do a search, plenty of stuff about it.

Okay, i can tell you what, with patience, anticipation and a fairly clear motorway, you can get from your Subaru WRX (new shape 01). i do log down my mpg's when i fill up(sad but true) but the worse first.....
8 mpg on track
11mpg when trying very very hard to catch up somebody on a meet (lots of 2nd gear use i remember, using full revs, changing down from 3rd at high revs to keep on full boost)
15 when driving very fast on a meet
20 when driving in the slowest group on a meet
20-25 in urban driving depending on how many longish drives
31mpg at 75 mph for 148 miles on motorway
30-35 scenic touring
and........
41.3 driving at 50mph for 172 miles on motorway!
these are fact, not just 'i got xxx miles out of a tank'. these are fill up to fill up. 344 miles is the most i have got out of a tank, that was 31.1 mpg, 11.06 gallons, 50.26 litres.
it can be done. i could prove it to you. any normal imprezza turbo can get over 35mpg
I have had 2 imprezza turbo's for 5 years up to now and the only thing i have had replaced is one front brake disc under warranty. My current MY01 has been run at maximum speed (pedal flat to the floor)once for 5 minutes and another time i backed off at 147mph.
i consider them very reliable
Cheers

Dave,
To be honest a Scooby is pricey on fuel and also when it comes to servicing, spare parts and upgrades. OK, I always use a main dealer, but you should expect to pay around 1 - 4 grand a year for servicing, tyres and <cough> enhancements. You will need to maintain the car *at least* according to the recommended intervals if you expect it to last.
Good luck!

Modified MY02 with 284bhp - presently done 200 miles, and the tank is still half full Think the tuning helps on the cruise. In 10,000 miles, worst ever tankful is 16mpg, best ever about 29mpg.

OK OK OKAY, before I add my 2p worth, what size fueltank does a 96 P-reg wagon have, UK model.
I was under the impression it was a 60L tank........?
Skoosh.
287 miles, motorway and town with a little speedy overtaking, gauge showed "E" so I filled her up and could only get 41.12 litres in the tank. If it's 60L then bloody brilliant, if it's 50L then it's okay.

Got a Jap Import Sti v5 and I get between 19 to 24mpg and 27-28 on the motorway (average 80mph). These babies boost later than UK turbos as far as I can see (except possibly new Sti's and P1) so easier to stay off boost and save fuel.

14 on a good day 10 and a real good day and 8 on a Track day
But some peeps here have posted 300 miles of 50 litres so really depends on how you drive and where motorways should get 25-35mpg IMHO
