You're missing the point.

Of course everyone is capable of making the decision themselves. What I'm asking is "Is being part of scoobynet a positive part of your subaru owning experience, and if so, could that positive part tip the balance as to whether you bought another one." as it did with me.

Crapaud62 - LOL re: discsount from IM

I think I was just curious, not sure where it came from now

All the best

Simon

Hi All

Just wondering is ScoobyNet featured in your decision to buy your subaru? Either, by the comments you read / discussed making you want one more, or the mere fact that having one made you more part of the community.

It's a little sad I know, but before I ran scoobynet, I was trying to decide between a Scooby and an EVO RS, and the fact that I would get more enjoyement out of the owning experience due to being part of the scoobynet community, made the final balance tipping difference.

If you already had a scooby before finding scoobynet, how did you find us and does scoobynet add to your ownership experience?

All the best

It had something to do with my decision to start modifying it. The test drive and good Euro import prices was what made the decision to buy it though.

I only found scoobynet after already buying my scooby. Not got my scooby yet but have loved everything about scoobynet. Makes me long for the day when it comes! I have found so much valuable and helpful information that will allow me to make my ownership fun. I made the right choice when i bought my scoob.

thanks for the replies guys...

OK, let's add something else in..

If you already had your scooby, would scoobynet feature in your decision process as to whether to change for your next car?

Cheers

Err yes.

Joined SN on 11-04-01 and picked up my Scooby in September 01.

Found all the advice regarding importing, modding and owning invaluable.I was tempted by Scoobs, Cossies and the dark side but after spending a coupe of months on here decided that with the help, support and community I'd get the Scoob.

Edited to add that the advice regarding modding and importing of Scoobs on here has tempted me to buy a JDM car so yes SN would feature in my decision to buy my next car.

Nathan..

I orignally had just bought my Zetec-S fiesta when i first found SN. I was just looking for some Impreza pictures for my computer. Then i got sucked in, i HAD to have one!!!

Now i'm in a financial mess and it's all your fault!! Just kidding, but I have far less money now - but I am far happier with my car thats for sure.

I also thought I'd keep it standard till insurance renewal in Oct. Then i went to a meet!!! I now have a P1 backbox, and will shortly be colourcoding and getting a scoobysport decat

Keep up the good work with the site, its one of the only things i seem to look at on the internet!, even though i spend all day on the net!

Of course it would feature. When you dont actually have a particular car then by asking someone who has and knows the problems/good things about it, it helps you choose. Certainly it helps you avoid the pitfalls and also perhaps the place you are buying the car from is respectable and well known.

I bought my first Scooby (silver MY94 WRX) ignorant of anything else around me apart from the mailing list IWOC. From there, I discovered the SIDC, Scoobynet and more.

Scoobynet certainly didn't influence my choice in car as I had already purchased it, but it has certainly enriched my life with useful knowledge and information about the car I love and the sheer amount of fantastic people I have met through meets arranged on here is astounding.

Some of the best friends I could ever ask for or want have been found through Scoobynet.

I wouldn't say that Scoobynet will influence my change of car, but I will certainly ask people on Scoobynet of their experiences with my future choice though.

No matter what car I have in the future, as long as Scoobynet is running........you'll find me here.

No, I found Scoobynet a month or two after buying the Impreza. In hindsight I would have bought the same car that I actually did, if I had read SN earlier. However, it's certainly influenced modifications I've subsequently done to the car.

Found Scoobynet....somehow prior to my purchase of my 1st Scoob! Didn't influence me into buying a scoob but has been invaluable from the advice, parts etc purchases. Brilliant place to organise meets and events from.

yes it was
as i was dubious about buying an import, a change of makes is one thing (ive always had a vaux and know them pretty well) but a change of make and getting an import (cant goto dealers for advice) is a big step

if there wasnt a big scooby site out there to offer advice i wouldnt have bought my car

I had already decided I wanted to look at a Scoob before I regularly used Scoobynet (Thanks Ray_T ) but Scoobynet gave me the info and confidence to think that I could service and run one without a dealer to fall back on. (No dealer where I live - it takes an hour ferry ride and a lot of cash to see a dealer!)

As for changing the car - I'm not going to change yet, but Scoobynet is a big place now, so there is a vast store of experience and expertise to use to make decisions - which I will be using when it comes down to needing a second car.

You can even find out how to fit central heating systems... I don't know of another place on the web quite like Scoobynet.

Already had my scoob but SN has cost me a small fortune in mods .

Must say it has saved me money and info such as specialists for servicing and parts and saved me hundreds on insurance this year a lone.

Cant remember how I found it (years ago ) I think it was a natural progression from the original SIDC/SN forum.

It was a factor in buying my second scoob and for going for a grey import.

My first Scooby hit the road on 07 April '94. I'm pretty sure there was no Scoobynet back then. Indeed, most of the UK had no idea what an Impreza Turbo was...

As for the 2nd question; with all due respect, why should it? Surely when making a major purchase decision, most are capable of deciding for themselves, from their own experiences?

Originally stumbled across Scoobynet after reading a bit David Yu wrote about it in EVO mag.

Always loved Subarus but Scoobynet has gave me loads of information about them and thus when i finish uni im going to buy one asap.

Im pretty sure that i know more about them than your average Impreza driver which is pretty sad!

Decided i wanted one from reading bits n bobs, handling performance etc. and then decided to a sport first, when/if
liked it would maybe get a turbo later.

Since then found SNET, and I will be driving a turbo by the
end of may.

Joined Scoobynet a good six months before buying my first Scooby. Gave me the heads up on the new MY03 coming out before most other people knew about it (and decided to go with the MY02), great advice on modd'ing etc. Even found a dealer 120 miles away from me who did by far the best deal for me as well.

A great resource which is still good during ownership (new headlight bulbs being the most recent good advice I've had from here).

Only draw back is I think its addictive - I think my works internet gateway must have a high thoughput for scoobynet, passes the day nicely!

My mate had scoobys for years in mid 90s. I did some on-line research and found the original SIDC/scoobynet many years ago. It convinced me to order a new scooby in 99. Unfortunately, various circunstances such as 12 month wait and change in company car policy led me to cancel it.

I wrongly thought that in the early days you had to be a Scooby owner to post. I read every post every day and finally plucked up the courage to register in 2001.

I have had some very interesting and thought provoking threads over the last few years. Sccobynet has been wonderful especially some of the fantastic charaters on the Muppet forum such as Chelle, Fastbloke, Disco, Bob.T and of course the immortal Billbill.

I have also come close to buying an Evo a few times and always value the advice from other people on this board.

I think Sccobynet is far more than just a "Subaru Appreciation Society" and I honestly don't think it would blind people to Subaru brand loyalty.

Simon, why are you asking? Are you trying to negoiate an extra discount on you new Scooby from IM?

Always liked scoobs. Decided to buy a new car, between the price drop 02 wrx or the CTR. Test drove the wrx in the rain and bought it without even driving the CTR.

As an enthusiast I always get 'involved' with the car, so searched for the owners / drivers club, then was directed to the slightly livelier (forum-wise) scoobynet.

I've learnt an incredible amount about the subaru since being here, and even just generally about performance cars (my general knowledge being already pretty good) and most importantly I've met some absolute friends-for-life along the way (not to mention driving the ATD!!!)

Keeps me in rags and on beans on toast mind...
