Midlife - thanks for the info
regarding other garages, isn't there a way of software disabling the tek2 before the car goes in for working on? AFAIR I'd seen something on a US site where somebody could press a switch (standard dash switch - not hidden) whilst on WOT and it disabled remap to return to standard map, i.e. switchable as required...
don't know whether this is part of the ecutek "firmware" or he'd asked for it specifically? tuning firm called something like Vinesh (?) in the US did it...

Truly stunned.
I have a My03 wrx just about approaching 1k miles, Rung local Cambridge dealer to book it in expecting circa £60 for Oil, Filter and labour.
£ 110 + VAT.
is this right it is a euro import so I get charged labour the UK supplied cars dont. But bejesus that seems exspensive. What have other people paid UK & Euro supplied cars.

seems about right unfortunately
mine was approx £110 inc vat but they charged me £15 to adjust the handbrake as they said it hadn't been done at the PDI in Belgium (weak excuse for profits?) it did feel slightly tauter afterwards but seemed a bit OTT the way / reason it was done

Sounds about right then, its the labour charge making a big difference. Jesus wonder how much the mechanic doing the work is earning. compared to what the dealer is charging.
With new benelux servicing schedule of
first one at 1k miles, oil/filter change every 7.5k miles or 12 months and then the actual service at 12months 15k miles.
As I do about 10k miles PA. I was going to do Oil change every 6 months (circa 5k miles) and then the service at 12 months, Im presuming they will charge £110 for the intermidiate oil change as well.
I remember Pete Crooney (scoobysport) posting about not having to use main dealers for servicing anymore, and still being able to keep the warranty as long as subaru approved parts are used. Some new Eu law or something when does this come into affect ??.

Apple,
Very strange that you mention the handbrake - mine feels a bit slack, and I was going to ask them to adjusst it when it goes in for it's 1000 mile service! Must be a continental thing! (My car came from Holland)
Maybe I will just do it myself.....

New law comes into effect in October. This is tied into the ending of the block exemption laws, which came into effect in October 2002. There is a one year 'transition' period, so it will really come into force in October of this year. You will be able to service the car yourself, as long as it is done to the same timetable specified by the dealer and you use equivalent quality parts.

Think it must be a euro thing mines a benelux car and it is not as tight as I was expecting, maybe they do this to stop the cable strecthing that always seems to happen to the many cars I have bought in the uk. Must be on my 2nd handbrake cable on the pug now, and when that comes back from a service you can only lift it 1 notch.
another UK garage scam maybe keep the handbrake nice and tight wear it out, sell the punter a new one. I never use the thing anyway always leave it in gear so it cant be towed away.

New rules in october that is bang on the 6 month oil change I was planning to do so looks like a good result for the scooby specialists. (will just have to stay away from their upgrade stuff or my wife will kill me).
For warranty work does that have to be done at the UK dealer or can specialists do this too and bill Subaru ??.
Anybody know what scoobysport charge for a oil, filter change for a price comparison.
there maybe a silver lining to this cloud.

After I posted it I knew someone would pick on that, I bet he wouldnt charge £110 for the privelege either, probably just swap for some bread or a place to sleep or something.
TVR gary, did they realise your car was a Euro import ??. What dealership was it, maybe it is just a handful of garages trying to claw some cash back from a lost sale

Refer to identical thread.
@pbee: since the 6 month oil change will not appear in the service record booklet, why not do it yourself?

Appe - I'd have thought that the handbrake was a warranty issue, and should therefore be done in the UK FOC, even for a Euro import....

wonder if the handbrake thing is "standard" setup on the continent or it's standard practice to adjust when they get over here?
unless it's like the UK PDI check now includes geometry check AFAIK after I saw a UK one being done - SUK realised potential problems and being proactive (must be worth a free service for a crawl like that ))

Just found this thread
I was hoping for the 1000 mile service as my wrx handbrake is slack and needs adjustment, but the service book says 5000 or 3 months, car imported from Holland.
whats going on??

1000 mile service at local main dealer in Carlisle
£118.66 (just checked the invoice) for Euro import which seems about right for oil and labour etc.
***BUT** service second to none...they know all about modding and have done Tec2 etc for me. I guess if I had bought the car from them the 1000 service might have been free (just guessing).
