A little while ago i owned a MY99 turbo 2000 ,
now i want annother scooby , problem is im not sure what to go for , we (my other half and myself) decided on a 2nd generation and then thought about bringing over a STI v5 or v6 from japan ,
and now today i have test driven a P1 andit was awesome to say the least , we want the car to be able to take abroad on hols etc and so it does need to be reliable , what would u go for yourselves as ive been told bringing an STi over from japan is better and cheaper than buying a P1 ?
PLEASE HELP

Getting a reputable company to source you a v5 from Japan will certainly be cheaper than the P1. I shall shortly be buying a V5 type R from Japan which is mechanicly virtully identical in terms of power, performance ect as the P1, 2 door to. Iguess though i have now kicked a hornets nest with that last statement but its horses for courses.
If its been looked after i reckon any scoob is reliable enough.

Hi Chris,
as the man say's it's horses for courses. I would also add that you still only get what you pay for.
Importing seems to work well these days judging by the increasing number of Japanese model around. But just remember that's what they are? Car's designed, manufacturered and tailored to meet the needs and road characteristics of that country, not the uk. Don't get me wrong, the spec & build quality are in no way compromised and they are every bit as good as a european car in that respect.
With regard to your V5 vs P1 question, I must now come clean and say I'm a P1 fan & owner. Yep, the cars are very similar, apart from, according to reference material, the wheels, brakes, suspension, gearbox, fuel, body styling & of course, Prodrive.![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Oh, and don't forget about the never ending queue of people wanting to put them down.![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Do your homework, drive the car's and make your own mind up, if you haven't already!!
(did somebody mention a hornet's nest?
)
Good luck mate,
Steve.
