Gents,
I'm going to look at some cars in the next couple of days and will be wanting them checked over by a professional.
I'm looking at low miler MY99-00 wagons with outstanding warranty so presumably the dealership would be the first point of enquiry?

Having exprienced the AA's service I was wondering if a main dealer would do a pre-purchase inspection and if so how much would this cost.

Also has anyone got any advice for a first time scoob-looker-atter.

Cheers
Dave

There was no abusive generalisation here just some heavy handed idiotic moderation.

I said that in general Subaru dealers do not offer a good service or value for money. I'm afraid that is true.

Go to specialist for better service and an inspection

They are ALL rubbish, simple as that.
Another classic sweeping ill-informed generalisation from the man who knows all

No complaints about my local Subaru dealer. Very good service thanks..... but pricey

No problem with my Subaru dealer (Chelmsford) ,I bought my MY99 Scoob back in November of last year and nothing was too much trouble .Servicing /parts are expensive but no other problems with them . If the car is an approved used Subaru then they check it over and replace anything that needs doing (mine had all new brake discs /pads put on ,and it had done 28,000 miles ). They should also chect it for outstanding finance / insurance problems .
Had mine 5 months and still can't get the smile off of my face !

Cheers Sticks,
It's a private sale but I want to get the warranty extended asap, I've also found Days to be that little more helpful than Osborne's even when dealing with daft questions.

Dave
PS my other half's in your industry, who do you work for?

DJ..agree DAYS were better than Osbourne, if you try a search on this site you will find the service intervals(its been done quite a few times in the past )some people hve scanned the service book .
Just keep a level head when looking at the car and remember if it doesn't feel right... walk away .Make sure the cam belt has been changed (after 3 years if a MY99)because thats one expence you don't need , tyres aren't that bad (about £80 a corner from the right places ). As for my work (French outfit in the city...someone has to !)...Have fun

A few more thoughts , check the interior trim as this is a bit flimsy on the classic and can be a bit expensive to replace from a main dealer . Also the standard radio/cass is a bit naff, also check the tyres (not wearing on the inside/outside)as this could mean the geometry needs to be adjusted .No cracked lights or damaged wheels .None of these are major things to worry about but you may be able to knock the price down !(make sure all the switches work )

Cheers Fella,
Might see you out and about in the future.
At least working for Frenchies you should get decent coffee, my other half works for the septics.
So the cambelts are three years regardless of mileage then? I'm looking at cars with c.20-30k on the clock, so they should have just been done or need doing.
At least with a 200sx you didn't have to worry about cambelts.

Yep might see you about (silver MY99 saloon Prodrive rear spoiler )
If my memory is correct MY99 is 3 years for the cam belt regardless of milage but I think they extended the interval on MY00 onwards (try a search on here ).By the way the coffee is cr*p

Agree with STICKS that DAYS are v. helpful on the sales side but in my experience the service side leaves a lot to be desired. OSBORNE's now have my custom in that respect.

I won't bang on about what happened, maybe they were just having an off day (days).

Enjoy the car when you get it.
Let us all know what you get and we'll give you a wave.

Oh, and servicing costs...

Small service around £120
Big service around £400
Super big service around £600

Service every 6 months/7500 miles whichever first.

30k miles service is big
45k miles service is big
60K miles service is super big.
In betweeners are small.

Don't forget petrol costs...
Smiles per mile...unbeatable.
