my brand new shiney car with a standard fitted RAC trackstar 24 hour protector got towed to the car pound because they were resurfacing the road it was parked on whilst I was on holiday - found out a week later. RAC never called. They are coming round to see what the problem is next week. Given that these are basically a one shot protection, has anyone else actually had theirs tested out in anger on the new car? maybe the whole batch is dud?

Question

I take it you called them to see if it was activated?

Did your dealer fill in the paper work for it when you picked the car up.
Mine did and gave me a copy, got home and phoned them but only activated when they get paperwork in post.

Paul,

As said above, you must inform the Trackstar people on collection or just after that you wish for the system to be activated.

Your dealer shoud have made this clear when you collected the car.

Question

saw an official RAC note on a dealers desk a while back reminding them to connect up / turn on motion sensor for trackstar before customer picks car up - saves rac getting call every time car is put on transporter / boat / transporter etc

has yours been activated?

I have a STi7 i phoned rac trackstar up to see if it was working?? They couldn't get a fix on it?! Took them three weeks to get to my car after two phone calls? And then I get the renewal come through! I phoned them up to complain of service etc They then decided to give me one months free BIG DEAL.
I SUGGEST PEOPLE PHONE THEM UP AND GET THEM TO TEST TRACK IT!!

Err..mmm. Better check this chaps. AIUI there's a number of levels of service, of which the "We'll ring you if we think it's been illegally moved" is the highest. I'm not sure that the Subaru-funded contract is for this highest level. Or have I got it wrong??

Trackstar were absolutely first class when my STi7 was nicked under embarrassing circumstances. From time of notification to recovery was two hours, during which time I got three updates on the situation.

I have just phoned them to check that the Trackstar is working on my car,

They could not pick it up at first as it was locked in my garage, but as soon as i moved it onto my drive they picked it up no problem, and were very specific with its location,

They did say that if you are going away i.e. on hol let them know, and they can sort out alternate contact / monitoring arragments.

I though the trackstar was GPS & GSM, thereby enabling them to locate your car even in a garage !

I would be upset if my car couldnt be located if in a garage
