STI8 whistle at 150mph
#1
I wanted to test today what is the maximum speed of my STI8 and at 150mph (250kmph here... ) I heard a loud whistle sound...
Could be the intercooler scoop ?

I had a similar problem, turned out is was the actual windscreen seal.. For me it meant having the screen removed and re-bonded which cured it, cost £40 I think.. I take it it's a high pitched whistle?

It will just be the air finding a gap into the car. It will be a tad windy at that speed. If you dont believe me, put your arm out the window but dont expect to bring it back in - LOL.

With my STi8 I've found a whistle coming from the ventilation system at high speeds...to cure, press the button to the right of the AC button - the one that stops fresh air entering the cabin - certainly makes high speed travel that bit quieter

bloody hell, what do you expect at 150mph???
next thing you know, you'll be moaning that doing donuts
wears your tires out, or doing 150mph makes your engine hot lol
hehehe
by the way... redlining the car then letting your clutch out
makes the wheels spin!! wierd or what lol

Thank you all for your replies,
Regarding the sound, it's rather a low pitch - boat horn like... it's not the usual whistle that you hear at high speed...
It might be a window moving, thanks Andy...

Had a similar noise in my STi7 at 145MPH, didn't half make me jump mate, slowed down a bit quick I can tell you.
I think it was a window slightly open as not heard it again since.

I get the same thing on my STi7 at 130 mph. Prior to getting a PPP it was fine so I'm starting to wonder whether something is genuinely wrong.
It could be that the car is now sucking in more air and at higher speeds.

the MY01 wrx wagon that I have has a loud resonating lower pitched foghorn noise when going over 130mph. shat myself the first time I heard it. I think the chaps at subaru didn't do wind tunnel tests with the aluminum bonnet and there is a resonance at the front somewhere...
others have reported it as well on here when the my01 first came out. I thought they would have solved it by now...

On the WRX wagons you'll find its the roof rails which make the noise. On the sedans you'll most likely find its coming from the air going through the little gap inbetween the car and you side mirrors which can easily be plugged up.

Sounds like the droneing noise from the oil control valve
for the variable valve timing control .At high speed and high load the adjustable valve timing on the inlet side helps to produce larger valve overlap which produces pulsations which produce the droneing noise .

Probably the window pulling away from the seal...on our (almost delimited) roads scooby owners (the STi7 does it too) have the chance to experience the sound at least daily - usually happens at about 200kph, depending on the wind direction...

STI8 humming/buzzing/whistling
I tracked my "hum" to a window seal, it stopped when I opened the passenger window a tad, unfortunatly my noise starts at 110 not 150! so it's a bit easier to put up with the wind buffering.
