This'll probably get moved but hey.

Was wondering what stops someone doing the following and wondered if anyone had done it already?

1). buy delta dash £300?
2). find yourself a crusty old Pentium 100 free/£10 on ebay
3). install it in the car with a step down to 12v transformer £dunno!
4). buy one of those nifty lcd screens to put on the dash £200?
5). set it up to show graphical graphs and data logging and all kinda of nice stuff. £bit of time

the possibilities are endless surely? nice backdrops, different colour gauges etc etc etc.

Dunno how much it would cost to ACTUALLY do tho.

you're excused!

i'm wondering if its possible to buy something like delta dash but is read only so you cant use it for tuning but just for logging and diagnostics, it would no doubt be cheaper then.

i've long been thinking I should put a home made gadget in my car! You know, with a little keypad to switch views and pause output and stuff, kinda like a sexy PSI3 Data Monitor

the costs will be the delta dash and the lcd screen tho!

in fact like I said earlier, perhaps there is a product which just READS the figures rather than enabling you to tune the car too.

It is possible to purchase a mini-ITX case that is the correct size for the DIN slot in your dashboard. With a regulated 12V, some software, a cheap handheld GPS, an LCD and a few cables you have a hi-fi/satnav/DVD player/data logger etc.

Mini-ITX motherboards are fairly inexpensive and can be bought complete with CPU.

I've been working on this for some time now. I hopefully will be using an XGA 6.3" TFT Display, SBC or Mini-ITX Motherboard with LVDS and the 12v ATX Power supply someone posted on here. The program will also record all the data from the gauges once it is finished. Here is a screenshot of the gauges i have done so far.

I want to start working on something similar.. there are a couple of problems at the moment though...

1) no rs232 output from SECS (yet)
2) the mini itx mobo, psu is sitting on my desk rather than in the car
3) I am trying to find a decent 7" touch screen that doesnt cost an arm and a leg
4) too much other stuff on atm

Richie.

Mini itx waiting to go in car.
PSU is the Cubid PSU, which may be happy running off battery voltage
Screen is an alpine 5.8"
VFD display too.
Intend using Scoobymonitor.co.uk to interface to ECU as it's cheap and configurable

Want to sort ICE out first

We ought to be collaborating on this, for sure! Anything I release will be open source.

Cheers,
Nick.

The boost gauge only went up to 30psi at first but i got a ride in a cossie running 40psi so i thought i should increase it. LOL.

The screen is about £400, but is very fast(6ms) and is XGA(1024x768) resolution on a 6.3" display.

XGA on a screen that size is impressive, but is it worth spending £400 on, hmm, but the uses are endless, mp3 player, gauge readout, reversing camera display, all sorts!

Got a link to where I can buy one?

www.sunrise.co.uk

http://www.ee.nec.de/Products/TFTLCD/63_12_02.html

I got a price of £315 but i think that is excluding VAT(£370 inc). That was late last year though. It might be cheaper now.

I'm not interfacing with any existing ecu monitoring box if that's what you mean(it would be nice to though). My brother is working on a sensor box for mine. I want something that will update at more than 30samples/s
