Question

Guys,

I'm going to the 'Ring in May, and was thinking about taking something better than the spacesaver wheel as a spare. The thinking is if I get a puncture whilst abroad, I can do the swap and not have to sit at 50mph max possibly missing my ferry home, etc.

But...

My MY99 is running on MY01 WRX 17" alloys (and will have 205/40 tyres by then), but all my spare wheels/tyres are original 16" with 205/50.

So... The rolling radius should be the same within a % or so.

Is this viable, or do I risk damage to the diff, etc, etc...?

Cheers,
Squizz.

Also have to check that your spares aren't directional, else you'll have to take 2 spares or risk having one on backwards

I wouldnt have thought it matters too much, provided you dont keep it on for 1000's of miles.

Afterall, look at the size of the spacesaver if you can safely roll on that for a while, y not on a 16"?

That's what I thought...But the max speed on the Spacesaver is 50mph. I assume that's due to the tyre type and not for any disturbance to the diff?

I just wanna be able to cruise safely at a <ahem!> decent rate.
