LOL @ olive, no not BP.

All fuel varys to some degree, but as Optimax is expected to be 98.5 RON, if feel this is more relevant to those using boosers to achieve the all important 100.

Optimax might be expected at 98.5 however Shell clearly states that Optimax is a minimum of 98 RON.

I have always run my MY96WRX jap import on optimax,will i see a difference with octane booster.and where can i get a good booster.

Shell actualy state "It is greater than 98 RON", that means 98.1 or more, our tests have proven that it has in the past rated at mid to high range of 98 - 99. but recent tests have shown the figures to be low to mid 98 - 99.

still better than 95 or 97 offered by other companies.

I dont think it is a critical as you mention i.e always running octane booster. When i run mine on just optimax my lambda link always shows all green lights on full throttle.??

Nasher : If you have something genuine to say let us know which company you work for and publish credible evidence. Put up or shut up. Having a view is fine but if you work for an oil company and want to say this then back it up with hard evidence.

Not happy with octane boosters since one was suspected of contaminating my lambda sensor. Very happy with Optimax (it's still reputedly a higher RON value than anything else you can buy on a forecourt

I have to say that I'm surprised that an oil company employee recommends the use of octane boosters. Have you had those tested as well? J

STI 8, when the oil companies dont make 100 RON fuel for road use, you have no choice other than to use Boosters, unless you can afford engine rebuilds.

As I said on original post, the results are actualy tested results with NF added, not calculated.

Don't get me wrong, wasn't having a go, just intrigued. Anyway, seeing as you've measured the results, you probably know what the active (octane boosting) ingredient is too (I'd assume it's MMT or some such nasty), so that'd be another interesting snippet of information you could let us know. J

your on the right lines with MMT, but as you well know these are very dodgy areas, healthwise, so I will not go into the compounds involved. I'll probably get a bit of stick for it, but its best we dont know what goes into it.

Well I suppose as long as your car is catalyst and lambda sensor free there's not a lot else for it to damage (apart from the odd brain cell). Anyway, cheers for the info. J

what RON is LRP?? Given that technically it is unleaded (since it stands for lead replacement petrol!) I have been running it in my import turbo MR2 since the filler allows the LRP nozzle.

so, what RON is it? I think over 97!!

Anyway, it runs perfectly in my car which is designed for 100+

It's just 97 RON fuel with some form of compound to reduce valve seat recession. The VSR additive could lead to catalyst damage. J

LRP is shipped as Super Unleaded 97 RON and has Potassium injected into it as its loaded onto the Road Tankers. RON will be only slightly above 97 the same as Super.

Certain OB do not damage oxygen and lambda sensors.

Neither do they damage cats....

Dingy, if they use metallic compounds to increase octane, then they are likely too cause damage in the long term. J

So in other words, could I run my soon to be completely decat Scooby on LRP (if I can fit the LRP nozzle in the fuel filler ).
