Being a newbie scoobie owner i experienced my first W**ker attack on Sunday Night.

I was driving down the A4 approaching chiswick roundabout, was in the inside lane doing 40ish, no other traffic about, this Tw*t in a Golf GTI decided to follow me for a while flashing his lights and tailgating to within about 1 inch.

Pulled up at lights and he was signalling that i like to play with my own salami etc. Was struggling to keep calm and not use the maglight on his sorry ***, the idiot then jumps the lights just to get ahead of me and almost crashes into a sierra with a family in it!

Does this sort of thing happen to other scoobie drivers?

Just a question

Err - no actually. Almost everyone who has any idea has a healthy respect for a Subaru and I find it rare that anyone "offers me out" It would be more fun to watch their goading antics than to actually take part!
I hope you did the right and proper thing and be a witness to the incident?

I can't say i've had any negative reactions from anyone either, if any thing the opposite, i find i hardly ever get anyone tailgating me, except once a Z3M coupe, who then proceded to wreck his car down a wet country road by trying to keep up ..... guess most people know when their car is not as fast... not saying mine is faster than the Z3M of course.
Also i find people tend to pull over to let me past on dual carriage ways/motorways quicker than when i had an Astra, even though i may be happy to travel at the same speed as them in the outside lanes.

I've had experiences with k**bs like that. Every body wants a go. Its always the most average of cars aswell.

Had the same when i used to drive a 300zx!

Respect tends to come from cars who are equally matched.

Easiest thing to do is tip your rear mirror so they are no longer visible.

OR you could slow down to snail pace - indicate to let them over take then sit on their ****. Thats quite satisfying but ofcourse, i'm a much more responsible driver than that

By far, the large majority of owners who are also enthusiasts will leave well alone There are, of course, the boy racing tw ats who always want to have a go - you get used to it, but by and large...most ppl don't bother too much and those that do are wanting a bit of a play which is fine (IMHO) as long as you do it in a safe area with no-one around.

For the racers, depending on my mood, I'll either wait until an appropriate time and then spank their sorry asses - or just let it go (around town or built up areas where it's too stupid and dangerous for example). Sometimes they just want to see you boot it and that's really all they are after so bear that in mind too.

Your "mucker" sounds like a prat of the highest order and reminds me a lot of when I got my car. I reckon I may hold the record for a twatattack - 3km after picking up my new STi7 I had a Fiat Punto GT on my tail wanting to race. I refused to do it as the engine was brand new, and I was brand new to the car as well. Stupid sod almost totalled his car trying to pass me and squeeze in between the car in front of me with a whole lorryload of oncoming traffic. What for??? Idiot.

You get 'em everywhere. Learn to live with it, have fun with the guys who want to see your car move and forget the boy-racers who will endanger people's lives and not even think about the consequences.

All the school boys around here know exactly what my Scoob is. We hear them discussing it sometimes. I would have been exactly the same at their age though.

I have had the occasional meaningful stare from parked police cars as I drive by. You know the sort of thing, with "dead eyes". I used to get the same when I had a ZX12R as well.

Only a joke Burr

1.Slow down gradually so they go to pass you. Then nail it in the appropriate gear until you are a few hundred yards in the distance. Repeat this as necessary until they get the idea. For extra annoyance operate your headlamp washers in front of them so they have to clean their windscreen

2.Best is if you know a sequence of lights in the area and can control their speed/driving so they always arrive just before they turn to green and have to stop- of course you approach slowly in gear 2 at about 2900 rpm- then nail it and leave them looking stupid. Repeat this over a sequence of a few lights for maximum effect.

I find method 2 in conjunction with method 1 allows me to humiliate idiot drivers of theoretically much faster cars- TVR's, Porsches, Ferraris etc. Only if their drivers are to55ers though. Anyone else in these vehicles gets maximum respect.

Only one - a middle aged lady in an XR3i sat next to me at some lights, she'd tailed me about 2 inches from the bumper all the way through a 30 zone (obviously I was doing about 28) past a school, town centre and police station (!) and saw her chance at the lights. I didn't even realise what was going on until she span her wheels madly when the lights changed somehow managing to go *sideways* towards me ! Needless to say I didn't hang around, she flew past me (in a 40) 10 seconds later then proceeding to cut across three lanes causing much brake lights and gestures from the other drivers. Muppet

Other things have usually been respectful waves from other Scoobs, Evo's, Cossies, Supras etc. Usually makes me smile

I had a maroon van trying to kll himself behind me last night came through the back roads and approached a (what I know to be very twisty) little village 30mph limit.. proceed though the village at 30ish with him so close you could trap a peice of paper between our bumpers.... he no proceeds to squees past and I swear you can't see more the 80yards ahead because of corners. So were both going along him in middle of narrow road.. At this point I decied ok I've had enough so I signal that I like my martini's shaken and not stired and pull over to let him past. I recieve a nice finger for my trouble (I assume informing me of his IQ) and he passes me staying on the wrong side of the road goind round a blind bend (I had pulled over so he could pass without moving over).

We then leave the village and enter the 60mph road. Where I catch up even though I was deliberatly not making progress and stay well back from him.

I did regret gesticulating at him as soon as I'd done it but just couldn't help myself. Hope he's not driving home at the same time tonight

Don't give them the opportunity to get past unless your in town near a school or other danger area.It only courts trouble.

I also never give them any hand signals as I find laughing at them seems to annoy them more. They take it too seriously whereas I view the whole thing like a big joke/game even when they do dangerous stuff.

I've only test driven a Scooby WRX MY03 last sat (don't own one yet) I had someone tw*t flashing their lights and giving me the w*nker sign coming in the other direction...
I didn't understand what he was on about as it was one of the widest A roads I've ever driven on.. granted there were hatchings and I was stradling it to pass the slow moving morons all driving like sheep.. I wasn't causing any danger to him at all.. I must add I managed to hit 95+ in third up hill doing this overtake before I looked down at the speedo and thought - I'd better slow down... The salesman didn't seem to mind anyhow ;-))

The hatchings were probably put in to annoy drivers. This is happening a lot perfectly good safe overtaking opportunities removed for no good reason at all. Also hedges/boards springing up at roundabouts removing visibility and forcing drivers to come to a halt for no good reason at all.

Its stuff like this that annoys me not other drivers.

don't forget at least three for the 95MPH- probably more like aother 6 though. Wham in one move you lose your licence, good work fella. I wonder what the most points anyone has managed to get in one go is? Or do they stop adding up at 12?

Funny you should mention 12 points, that's the same system they use here, too.

As I drive either a 98 Outback or else a ratty 88 Escort, no one expects anything from me by simply looking at me. However, since you don't always need high performance to make the right moves in traffic, I can often outpace twits in fast cars simply by knowing what opportunity to take when.

Once in a while one of them will take offense and put me in my place with a squeal of tires and a puff of ego because they feel threatened. I enjoy watching them sail off ahead, far too fast (kind of like letting a kite out on a string) and often I catch them again at the next signal. Few motoring pleasures are greater than proceeding to beat their response time at the signal change, and leaving the line first. Oh, does that get them excited...

It's only an offence to cross a hatched area if it's enclosed by a solid white line - it's fine if the enclosing line is dashed.

Saying all this........I was coming back from Norwich last Friday and there was this total T**T in a Scoob, yes in a Scoob!

I drive a scoob myself but wasn't in it at the time. Was on the A140 coming from Norwich to Ipswich and there was a long line of traffic in front of me, this particular part of the road was just a single carriage way.

So this dick in his scoob decides to pull out over take me (obviously on wrong side of road) and one car in front then sharply pulls in front of the next car. There was allot of traffic coming from the other way too and wasn't much room to spare.

I think he must have done this 4-5 times within a matter of about 8 miles and sometimes was on corners/hills etc. He must have had a death wish or something. Thing is few more miles down the road and it turned out he was only 2 cars ahead of us again so he didn't really achieve anything!

Just posting this really to say it isn't always "other drivers" who drive like T**TS. Some people think they are indestructible because they are in their Scoob.

stiscooby ... i wasn't there so your call on the overtaking manouvres ... sometimes people want to make progress for whatever reason and it's very frustrating in a long line of traffic where everyone is happy to stay put but they leave no space whatsoever for people who do want to overtake ... it's almost like "well i don't think it's safe so i'm not leaving you a gap".

Dashed bordered hatchings! as Mungo says this isn't illegal! Solid bordered ones are!
BTW the 95+ was by accident... my first test drive of the car had to see what it could do.. I was shocked to see the speedo reading that high... as the car didn't feel that quick.

Nice to see we have a few responsible drivers on this forum telling me what right and wrong ;-)

As for a dashed line around the hatchings, this means this area can only be entered to overtake a slow moving vehicle like a Tractor or Milk float. As for Fiesta's/old people/women (only joking, men are just as bad) traveling slow then its open to arguement when ur stopped for doing it, I suppose, whether mr policeman takes that as an excuse is up to your luck on the day

Edited to correct queens english....

The road in question was wide enough to accomodate two lanes easily for each side of the road (without central reservation) the hatching have been put in purely to deter drivers (Mr and Mrs Jo Average) from wanting to overtake. It was possible to safely overtake down the whole road without entering the path of any oncoming traffic.

These sorts of artificial road narrowing out of built up areas are annoying and unecessary in my opinion. As is reducing once national speed limit roads to posted 50s and putting in Double white lines on roads which used to be unrestricted passing wise and perfectly safe.
The term nanny restricted state springs to mind!

People who take offence at other drivers when they do perfectly safe considerate overtakes also p*ss me off!

By far and away the mostest bestest method to be-little the ******** minority is let them go by you and as they do poke ya tongue out at them whilst doing the hand on nose finger waggle like you used to at school. They wont quite know what to do and their mates will crack up laffing making them look stupid and often defusing the situation. I have done this on many many occasions and I can almost garrentee they will leave you well alone afterwards.

Oh and my STI8 comes this week and I cant wait .......

Gary -

Thumb tip to the nose, fingers splayed upward? I do that sometimes, too, when someone expects an obscene gesture from me. It can have nice comic effect.

Lizard,

It has maximum effect when accompanied with the tongue poke. I had it don to me years ago by two builders and i have never forgotten. They put me right in my place and I could do nothing but laugh. Keep it up fella.

Well I do not own a Scoob, but I can imagine the "stupid" reactions of others.

As I drive an unlikly performamce car; Octavia 4x4@220+BHP, oh estate aswell. I can to an extent avoid this, but it is amazing when I do go and it upsets somebody the reactions I get then. Also I get the counter effect of a *unlikly car* of people not been aware that I can go and will go.

I think it all boils down to jealousy... I have only been "tried" by young boys in small hatchbacks..... I just look over and laugh. The drivers that annoy me the most are the estate vulva owners who always sport one of those flippin fish! If you want to drive at 15MPH then get a goddamn push bike Grrrrrr....
