What a difference in fuel

Driving down the A1 at the weekend I pulled in at a petrol station where only normal 95 unleaded was sold (not even super).
Thinking "It'll be ok, how much difference could it really make", I filled up.
Pulling away out of the garage the difference was immediately apparent. It was much, much slower to respond, and just felt lifeless in comparison to the Optimax I'd always previously used.
So apart from now being an Optimax convert, I'm also curious to know whether anyone here has figures on just how much difference in power there is between the fuels (MY03 WRX). (If this is even a sensible question).
Looking forward to the tank being empty again so that I can get my car back!
