Question

A lot of Impreza drivers also have other cars.

Say, Westfields, Caterams, Elises, MX5's etc etc

I am considering a MX5 and have been quoted a limited mileage policy through the MX5 Owners Club - BUT, how do YOU lot insure your other cars??

Is it always through unique club schemes? or Classic policies? anyone added the car to their Impreza insurance??

I use a really cheap specialist broker who specialises in 2nd cars with Gold Wheels....

Seriously, insure the other car in your wife's name with you as a named driver?

I insure both our car's with Admiral. To start with they gave me the lowest quote which helped. I contacted them for a quote on another car but informed them I only had one lot of no claim's. They offered me full protected no claim's on the second car as the first was insured with them.
Our first car is a 52 Plate Evo 6 RS2 Im 29, my wife is 27.With full protected no claim's £960 with no restriction's on use or parking but must have a cat 1 alarm.
The second car is a Vauxhall Frontera. Detail's as above £390.

Hope this help's.

Mac.

Second policy,
2002 MX5 1.8i fully comp with protected NC and garaged, £490 with liverpool Victoria.
I've tried various other places but this was the cheapest.

Thumbs up

Thanks all - I have been quoted £232 for the MX5 1.8i, mileage limited to 5000miles. and it MUST be garaged! Maybe its not bad then??

It just seemed really expensive considering my Impreza insurance is about £330!!

NO Import shocker here - I will be buying a UK car - its VERY interesting to note that its these UK cars that are sought after with eagerness.

Just the mirror of the Impreza market - the REAL money is ALWAYS on the UK unmodified unraced car - EVERYTIME!!

The market speaks volumes

Mantamac, owning an Evo speaks volumes for coolness and vehicle knowledge, owning a Frontera completely destroys the former surely?

Even an MX5 comes above a Frontera, just.

Tell me about it...doh! My in-law's live in the Scottish highland's about 1 hour past Inverness. We go up there on a regular basis and the terrain can be a bit tough. It get's real bad in winter when the snow hit's, so we needed a 4x4 that we didn't mind getting a few knock's.(it fit's the bill perfectly)
They do what they say on the box though(not a lot else)
There you go that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
They intend to start travelling down here in winter so I might give it the elbow soon.... I quite fancy a Holden Commodre GTS on the path next to the Evo , or dare I say it an Octavia RS....!

Hey, this was an 'How do you insure topic when it started' !!!

Mutant Matt - if the market for proper UK cars has dissappeared then I feel very sorry for the Import lads!!! and those who have modified their cars - there cant be a market for them at all!!

You can laugh all you want about MX5's but you would beg for the way they are selling - my local dealer cannot get enough!!! makes you think and weep at where the Impreza was in the 90's

Mantamac- Holden, now you've regained your cred.

PS.Lewis- So that's what makes a good car then, the fact that everyone is buying one?
Perhaps your main criteria for buying a car is knowing it will sell(unless the bottom falls out of that market).

Anyway, insurance, oh yes...........

Resale Resale Resale!!

Residuals are where the game is won!!

If everyone is buying, then theres a damned good reason - the MX5 offers great value for money .......... in the same way that the Impreza does!!

The bottom may well fall out of the MX5 market - but its better than sinking your money into a Hyundia Thingameejig

What would you suggest I spend my money on? Mods for the Impreza? That are worthless come resale and in fact lessen the value of the car!?

A Westfield? Maybe!

Its only a 3rd car I'm talking here!

Buy a £50 car with 12 months MOT worst you can lose is £50

Residuals are where the game is won!!
Buy a classic 911 then they just dont drop in price anymore

If everyone is buying, then theres a damned good reason - the MX5 offers great value for money .......... in the same way that the Impreza does!!
Country is flooded with grey imports that why they are selling well. Higher spec and cheaper priced imports. Nothing to do with UK models, except they are having to lower the price to compete.

The bottom may well fall out of the MX5 market - but its better than sinking your money into a Hyundia Thingameejig
Second hand ones are cheap due to the Eunos, thats why you are after one for a 3rd car, yes ?

What would you suggest I spend my money on? Mods for the Impreza? That are worthless come resale and in fact lessen the value of the car!?

A Westfield? Maybe!
A classic car, plus classic insurance is very good value.

Resale Resale Resale you say!

Buying a car to enjoy is far higher up my list than it's resale value.
That's a variable I'd put down to cost per fun.
