Question

I've downloaded the pdf file on the MY03WRX PPP and it states that:

'to fully benefit from extra torque levels available, fitment of 18" wheels and tyres recommended'

Apart from possibly looking better, is there any real reason to upgrade the wheels and tyres following a PPP fit? How is the ride quality affected? Anyone driven both combos?

Silverback I am having the Prodrive Flow Formed 18 inch wheels fitted to my wrx03 fitted with PPP next wednesday at the first serice, along with Quick shift gear change so will be able to report back on whats the difference after then. The only problem that i can see is that the car will look even more on stilts as it will need lowering to compensate for the bigger wheels and tyres,Having spoken to prodrive a lowered spring kit for wrx03 will not be available until may this year.

I'd be interested to see what you think of the short-shift once it is done!

Echo above comments - let me know on the quickshift. The standard shift is silky smooth, but I want to add PPP and quickshift... Will be very very interested in your comments

DBY - be very interested to know how you find the 18's (and other mods). Remember to post your comparisons.

BTW, if it's not too cheeky - how much have the new wheels set you back?

Silverback i managed to get 10%discount of recomended retail which is £1800.The main reason for getting them for me is that i think from some angles the standard alloy wheels and tyres look very skinny. The main reason that Prodrive recommend the up grade is to make even more money out of us!On serious note Bigger wheels and tyres will be able to handle the increase in torque which is up 25% over standard wrx

£1800 for wheels plus the £1600 for the PPP?

Cripes I'm gonna need to start saving!

Think I'll have to go for PPP first and then maybe wheels a year on, wife might notice more if a £3400 hole in the bank account appears in one go!

Did that include any money back for your old wheels or have you kept them?

I've had cars running on 16",17",18" and now back to 17" and I believe that the cars run much better on 17"'s, the 18" just look better.

As for Prodrive recommending 18's - Of course they will

I drove my PPPd STi for a week or so before putting 18s, and it does make a vast difference.

Personally, I found the suspension a bit 'bouncy' when I first got the car, and although it settled down a bit, I wasn't particularly comfortable with it. After the PPP was fitted, I found the extra power made the car feel a little skitish.

Once I put the 18s on, the suspension felt much better. Obviously most of the bounce had been from the tyres. It also seemed to feel more settled on corners and tramlined less.

I was unaware of the recommendations before I ordered the wheels, and only found out afterwards, but I'm glad I did it anyway.

DBY,

You managed to get the price of the PPP included with the car? That's some pretty good negotiating! How did you manage it? Thanks.
