Picked my 98 turbo up last week. Put in £30.00 done 167 miles, and I was giving it a punt or three ;o) Put in a score yesterday, done 103. something miles - I don't think it's too bad at all.
Come back to the Scoobs!!!! Engine sounds niiiiiiice!!

Oh and make sure that if you do buy one it has full documentation on oil changes and it's last cambelt change. Pal of mine bought an STI Type R and had to have a massive (and very very very very expensive) rebuild cos of oil problems. Another mates cambelt went - really be picky about checking those things out! Just had to change the brakes on mine, nearly a grand - although I knocked the initial price down on the car because of that fact.

Hi mate,
I've got a MY98 Turbo and I too do 40 miles a day for work. It cost about 40 notes to fill it up with either SUL or Optimax and I get about 240/250 miles out of that. Thats semi normal driving with a little ragging.
Cheers

Own a Ren 19 16v that is to be fair past it , and if I can will be lookin at about the same as you a, 99 MY scoob( been bitten by the scoob bug methinks).
Curious is ther much differance in driving a non WRX turbo, WRX and STi not only in running costs but grin factor?

Running costs:-
Insurance is horrendous, especially if your young, fuel.... look at 15-18mpg in town, 30mpg on a long gentle run.
2 services per year (7.5k or 6 monthly whichever is first) one being a cheap one (under 100 quid normally) the other being expensive (depending if its 1, 2 or a 3 year one) varying from 300-500+ pounds.
Tyres can vary in price too, cheap nasty ones are literally cheap and nasty (avon zz1's spring to mind here) but some of the good tyres will cost you around 80-100 quid size dependent of course.
Most people will spend 6-8k on running costs per year on a scoob, so i would take into account that if you cannot afford 6-8k per year then i wouldnt buy one (fuel, roadtax, servicing and insurance should be included in the above quote).

Exspensive fun toy ,,,,,,,, if you can afford a scoob , then really you dont worry about the other costs too much ,,,,,, if you are the type who thinks about servicing costs , insurance , etc,,,,,,,, then you might be in for a surprize ,
My opinion is, they are exspensive cars to keep up , worth it , but exspensive ,
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I have just sold mine and calculated £550 per month over my two years of ownership. This figure includes fuel (only 8000 miles) and depreciation. Not too bad considering the fun

I'd agree not cheap but great fun, I was roughly about 600-650 per month between repairs, insurance, fuel and Depreciation(no loan payment included). I had a 94 Sti for 18 months. If you get something newer depreciation will be a bigger issue but repairs likely to be less of an issue than an older one. Did 70 mile round trip daily.
