Hello all,

I joined here yesterday as it seemed to be an interesting Subaru area, but as I learn more I realize I'm a bit out of place. I'm driving a 1998 Outback in central Ohio. My car serves as an ordinary urban station wagon (or is that shooting brake) most of the time, but I bought it because I wanted to be able to haul camping gear just about anywhere, anytime.

My philosophy of driving, in a capsule statement: "Move forward into the available space."

I dearly love to drive the car on gravel roads in our hilly southern half of the state, and I find myself trying to weasel through brush and trees without damaging the paint or removing the mirrors.

It is a 5-speed, like the 1988-1/2 Escort I have with 212,000 miles. I love to drive a manual transmission; my experience includs a 1969 Renault 16, a 1970 Audi 100LS, some small dump trucks, and several sizes of tractors with unsynchronized transmissions.

Ah, tractor operation - sit on the seat and see all four wheels, the purest form of motoring. But I digress.

So unless you tell me to bugger off, I'll loiter here and ogle your cars and perhaps provide you with some comic relief. I can post pictures in the gallery, but I learned today that my site's bandwidth limit is too low for that.
