MY03 WRX PPP

Is there a particular time you have to have PPP fitted.
I have seen some people have it fitted before delivery, some at the 1,000 mile service.
If I say wanted it in 12 months (12,000 miles) is that still ok?

Yeah, I think we're about the same age etc if I remember a couple of threads on the insurance forum the other day.
I'm 24 and it will be my first scooby. Havent even approached the ins. co.s about PPP but it is definitely something I will be looking to get in the future, should funds allow etc....
But I would imagine that the standard WRX will do me for a while yet (famous last words, eh?! )

The only restriction is that the car must be DVLA registered before the pack can be put on the car, as its an after sale kit, i.e. not factory option kit IIRC. If it was me I would wait till at least the 1000 service and may even have it done after a couple months with a few thousand on the clock. If you have it done on delivery then you wont see the difference.
On a UK scoob these kits are a must IMHO. The stock WRX and STI just dont have enough ummmph (techincal phrase) without them.

Ive just got my new scoob a week ago too (very pleased with it too I might add ). Any idea how much the insurance is likely to increase if the car is PPP'd? Also how long does it take to have the work done?

wow if the increase is as little as that then it really seems like a viable option (seem to recall the price mentioned was £1600 all in for the PPP?).

I think the new PPP for the MY03 is £1600. As far as I know the PPP for the 02 and before, and I think the 03 STi, is 2K (or £1995 or something).
At the end of the day the dealer may charge more - but if he does I would go elsewhere!

I saw the press release which Quembys of Baldock had received - it is £1600 inc VAT and fitting, so if you're quoted more then the seller is 'aving a giraffe.
It comprises an ECU and exhaust, and must be fitted after the car is registered. Quembys said it was worth waiting until the 1000mile service so the car is run in when you fit it. I suspect that there may be slightly more to it than that - on my Civic Type R, air-con is a dealer-fit option. You can therefore have it fitted after delivery. But if you have it fitted before delivery it's covered by the Honda 3yr warranty, and if you have it fitted later it's covered by its own separate 1yr warranty (being an aftermarket part)! Might be the same for PPP?

Actually, I have a accessories prices list and at the top it says something like "All accessories are covered by a 3yr/60000 mile warranty, whichever comes first."
Now, whether that means if you have them fitted pre-delivery or from whenever you buy them, I do not know....

PPP for an 02 WRX is £1600 incl VAT and fitting. It's not listed on the Subaru UK site for the 03 yet. The Dealer that fitted mine said to wait until at least the 1K service before having it fitted. I had it done at 5K and love it!

picking up my my03 wrx on wed. and the ppp is already ordered.
should take around 2 weeks so i will have fitted with the 1k service.
it was £1600 extra but with it i should at least match the pull of my modded my00.

Never had a PPP fitted but seen bits changed by good mechanic. So I shoudlnt think its takes very long to fit the PPP. The centre and back box exhaust is very straight forward. The chip is a plate off and swap. The only other bit is the pipes. Maybe an emissions check, select monitor check, road test and paperwork. I would have thought 1 maybe 2 hours tops.

just to add about insurance, when i phoned to give details of changeover the woman asked if any mods to be done i told her of the ppp, she asked if it was being done by the dealer, i told her yes, and she said thats ok it doesn't matter then so just £11 extra.
chuffed or what extra 42bhp at no extra cost.

be carefull some of these girls at the insurance dont really know whats its all about they may say it wont affect it but when you come to claim it may be a different matter
i believe ppp to be a power increase mod and should cost you about 10 to 20% on top
best get something on paper for that one m8

I watched my PPP being fitted; very interesting. It took about 3 hrs I think, but the mechanic took the time to explain what he was doing, plus show me the ins and outs of the Subaru mini laptop for the setup.
Insurance with Tesco went up £52 for me.

I picked my my03wrx on 1st of march with PPP already fitted it was the second wrx in the country to have it fitted acording to subaru uk parts dept. The cost was £1600 fitted and the exhaust looks and sounds great but as i have only so far covered 470 miles, so yet to explore the full performance roll on 1st service.

i will double check with insurance but it didnt really surprise me as they were the only ins. co. that didn't care about tracker or cat 1 alarm and they were way cheaper than anyone else.
TOONMAN
was that the ppp for the my03 wrx?
if so how did it feel after?

yeah, really looking forward to getting mine on Friday (all being well).
I am sorting a few extras out, no performance mods yet though.
I think realistically, I will see how things go for 6-12 months and then maybe have the PPP. I can still talk about it though

Yeah, I think thats right. Im ordering my MY03 tomorrow probably and I', not really in a position to get the PPP now (insurance and also the fact that I want to sample the standard WRX for a while - its my first ) so when I spoke to the dealer yesterday I think he said you could do it whenever IIRC.
