Mine's up in June.

Anyone know if the extended one is limited mileage, as I do 20k a year... Heard it about £600?

Just extended mine; unlimited mileage, £410 - on a 98Wagon with 47K. Time will tell if its worth it........ but at spares prices it could be.

Words of Wisdom :-

Insurance is an expensive waste of time when nothing goes wrong
OR an absolute bargain when it does. You choose.

Anyway, one years unlimited mileage cost me £327 (99MY) and saved me another £2000 on top...

Note that it doesn't cover against catastophic failure like cambelt breaking and screwing your engine.

Not applicable for a modded car either; plus having to keep on having it serviced at main dealers...

Cool

In hindsight it WOULD have saved me £5,485.78 over the last 6 months...... so go figure my opinion on extended warranties out for yourself

Will it cover me with a P1 exhaust? Or just 3rd-party ones that aren't allowed?

Extended warranty.....

the Subaru Proven warrenty can be renewed extended but is limited to 60,000 miles. Not sure how much though.

Tried to claim for 3 things on my proven warranty (MY98), and got knocked back for them all (piston slap - told it wasn't bad enough. . . . , drivers door glass scratched - told it was not covered, and drivers interior door panel damage - told it was not covered)

When I enquired about renewing they said to speak to the dealer as it's done over 60k (~62k) miles, and they would be able to sort something, I think the dealer warranty is about £350 or so per year.

Edited to addd : IMO unless you are nervous about a major mechanical failure, it's not worth it.

Or If you HAVE had a major mechanical failure it is worth it.

As either you're covered next time it happens
or sod's law says that it will never happen again

Have you tried AA's mechanical breakdown insurance? It's only £75 and should cover all this. Anyone used this and what's your experience?

In summary - If you do have a mechanical failure, it would have been worth it.

I had my cambelt tensioner replaced under extended warranty. Quite a common fault I believe. Cant remember the exact figure but it was slightly more than the cost of the warranty so IMO yes, it's worth it. Bear in mind you also get Subaru Assistance which is probably worth about 70 quid.

my car my97 is still under subaru proven warranty and is six years old this year! £348 inc Vat - bargain, any real problem has been sorted - switch faults etc! only downside - subaru servicing cost! - no 'non subaru upgrades - to engine anyway!)

a couple of questions to anyone in the know:

1) Does the car have to be totally standard?

2) My 52.5k service was 2k late (not down to me - i bought it like it. in hindsight i didn't check printout properly when buying...)

3) Does anyone know if its restricted to main dealer services now, or can i go to a Subaru parts-using specialist??

4) My car had a new short engine and turbo charger 15k miles ago, what's the likelyhood of it going kaputt - is it less at risk than a true 60k engine?

I rang up my local dealer today to get a quote for extending on a 20k mile MY00; £296 for one year or £450 for two years. Either way, the warranty is only effective until 60,000 miles are reached.

Gary

That's a bit steep - just put 2 more years on my MY00 for £404 through Westaways in Northants, and you can opt for an "unlimited mileage 2 year" option for £672 if you plan on doing more than 60K.

Had the big ends go on the RB5 that i had last year and this was dealt with under the Proven warranty that was on it. It was done at a different dealer to the one where i purchased it from. The supplying " threw " in an extra years cover as the original 3 years cover was about to expire! Good job they did!
Now have a P1 and it has a year of its original left and the dealer has again " thrown " in a year on top. Well worth having as it gives you peace of mind. Believe that the cost would have been in the region of £300 if i had purchased it myself.
