What was the old (mid 80's maybe) Subaru Coupé thingy that looked a bit like the b*stard son of a TR7 and a MK1 MR2 but with an unfeasibly long boot? Was it the XT? There's a baby blue one I keep seeing around my way. Southampton/ish area.

Thanks Chris.. That's the ugly bugga.. Looks even more a rip of an MR2 in the first pic on that thread but it's much bigger than the '2.. Nice car though, they don't make 'em like that anymore.

Nice pics XT, gonna have to see which came first now, the '2 or the XT.. Mind they both owe a lot to the styling of the TR7 and the X19..

Can't say I'm a big, big fan but I do like cars with character, (even character that people deem 'ugly') not ones that blend into the corporate fleet car pool like so many nowadays.

Thanks for posting the pics mate.

13 pics eh?

thats about 13 too many then

The tops of your tyres should put some jam on, and invite the arches down to tea

So, how well did it drive then ?

Cheers

it had air-suspension, and despite what most of you may think, it did corner quite well. The rear diff was jerky because of a design flaw.
The engine was very brisk, it used to spin during all of the 2nd gear(while on the 2wd mode).
Very good equipment level, like tilting dash, steering adj reach and rake, elec mirrors, windows, locks. The boot was mediocre.
The only thing i hated on this car was the compressor from the air-suspension, it really pissed me off after the first two weeks.
Overall a cracking car, and if anyone of you want one, i can help him choose a good example. If i had kept it, the car would be destined for great things.

BTW, the MR2 came first. IIRC Lotus had the project ready from the late 70s. The XT was presented to the public as a study in 1981 and as a production model in 1983 for Japan and 1984 for the rest of the world.
