For Immediate Release

265 PS PERFORMANCE PACK FOR NEW-LOOK IMPREZA WRX

Subaru’s new-look Impreza WRX is now available with a 265 PS performance pack which not only matches the power of the standard STi but produces even more torque.

Maximum pulling power leaps to 257 lb.ft at 3,500 rpm compared to the STi’s 243 lb.ft at 4,000 rpm and the regular WRX’s figure of 221.3 lb.ft at 4,000 rpm.

The result is a 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds with the Prodrive-developed WRX performance pack and a 0-100 mph recording of 14.1 seconds. This compares to the standard WRX times of 5.6 and 15.9 seconds respectively.

More importantly, throttle response is significantly enhanced throughout the rev-range, both during take-off and at the top-end. For example, the 30-50 mph time in fourth gear comes down from 7.8 seconds to 6.3 seconds and the 50-70 mph time in fifth gear is slashed from 10 seconds to 7.4 seconds.

The £1,600 performance pack must be fitted after registration and comprises a reprogrammed Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and free-flow exhaust system with a large single tailpipe. This price includes VAT and fitting.

Ends…

This is great news, but I don't understand the thinking behind it. You can get more performance from a wrx+ppp than from an sti (0-60) and it can't be far off from 0-100. It seems like strange product placement by Subaru. I'm not complaining though - this might be the one to have!!

Don't forget the STi has many other differences suspension and engine wise (and that Scoop !). I would suspect they dont expect to sell *that* many STis without the STi PPP.

Question

So will this PPP fit the MY02? I guess the exhaust pattern is the same and its down to the ECU. Doesn't include the uprated fuel pump though ? Very tempting

I believe that they are now using the EcuTek software which gives them a greater range of mapping cabailities over the old Boost raiser which is presumably where the gains have come from.

PPPMAT, you have to remember that a very large proportion of the STi owners go for the PPP as well so I doubt it's that strange....

good point, I hadn't thought about that. Still, looks like a good option for people like me who 20,000 miles a year (ish) and need a bit more comfort and still want the performance.

Anyone know what the CO2 figures are for an '03 with PPP, or where I can find them?

Thanks in advance,

Deano

This should clear up the stragglers who weren't already pissed off about residuals,no torque, ppp delays, rattly suspension, ugly lights

To work out the power/weight does anyone know what the MY03 weighs and what does the STI 8 weigh?

Cool

This also might be a blessing for those of us who would like an STi Wagon but don't particularly want to imprt a JDM car.

MYO3 Wagon + PPP + Full Decat might be at last the thing to tempt me into thinking about replacing my car

Excellent news for wagon drivers (and potential wagon drivers)
At last a decent performing wagon !

Some stats for those who want 'em :

STi = 1470kgs
WRX = 1395kgs
WRX Wagon = 1410kgs

CO2 emissions for WRX = 219 g/km

The MY03 PPP will not be suitable for MY02 afaik

Try telling the Insurance company you have just put 20% more power on the car, they will just double your policy

Sounds fantastic, too bad I've already put a deposit on something else

Hoping Mike Wood or Nick Wadeson could add to this thread?

March's Evo reckons the PPP will only have 250bhp, so as not to tread on the toes (tyres?) of the STi. Got to say this makes sense. Much as I'd love a WRX PPP with 265bhp + more torque than an STi, I'll be surprised if it happens. Doesn't make much sense from a marketing point of view.

Cheers

Mike

The insurance was no problem as i went through Subaru Insured and they know about the ppp.I paid £21k all in for WRX 03 with ppp,met paint, wrx matts, bootliner, alu gearshift surround Momo gear **** the car is fantastic value for money. The article in Evo mag is correct in that it states that Prodrive have extracted 260 bhp from the 03 model and this is in fact what has been passed through to the final product that we can buy,i have phoned last week and they confirmed this to me roll on sat morning.

why would, specifically an STi7 owner be pissed off ???
seeing as the STi8 has the same power as the STi7 and both PPP's are comparable

If I recall the old MY02 PPP had more torque than the STI(261(PPP) to 253 STI). It seems as though the new PPP has increased the BHP more than it has the torque.

What is interesting is to see the stated performance figures vary so much. If I recall the MY01/02 PPP cars official time was around the 5.6 mark.

So how did they get it to 4.8 with only a 15 Bhp advantage and no weight loss??

From what i've seen I suspect the original MY01/02 performance figures were very conservative when every comparison i've seen on the road indicates them to be much faster than given credit for.

Curious...

Simple - cost.

How much was the "prodrive" STI7

£28k or thereabouts.

At least the STI 8 costs less. But there is now no reason to buy a UK STI for performance advantage alone over a WRX. Indeed, a PPP'd WRX will have a higher power to weight ratio than a standard STI. OK, but the STi PPP gives more power again, but at comparably higher cost.

Not me Nick (unfortunately!), but just wondering if the horse's mouth could add anything else? Certainly sounds like an attractive package!

Personally, I seem to be a little bit rogered at the moment. After a year of thinking, I eventually decided against one car (PPP Wagon) in favour of two extremes (RAV4 + Caterham), and it is currently looking like, now my RAV4 deposit is no longer refundable, Portugal won't let me import the Caterham (non-homologated) . Have been waiting for the last week for a final decision from Customs.

There is the small chance that I will forgo my deposit (two thousand quid ) to get the Portuguese Prodrive Pack, with suspension and brake upgrades, but as it will probably take another 6 mths to filter over here, I don't see that just yet.
