The PPP is as the statement says (does exactly wahat it says on the tin).

Just to let you know that the law changed in Portugal with regard to performance increases etc (i.e. They now have to comply with Euro legislation).

We are currently working to gain this approval (which will hopefully happen by this summer). Once this approval has been gained I should be able to start supplying the product through Entreposto once again (keeping warranty etc). Until then, fitting the PPP in Portugal will invalidate the warranty on 03MY cars (WRC & STI).

I should know more next week (detailed timescales etc) upon my return from Geneva

Nick.

WRC & STI
Now there's a typo (or just wishful thinking )

Obviously I meant WRX!!!

Any chance that Prodrive USA will offer this throughout the dealers in the states?? ProDrive stuff is in much demand here but all has gone quiet with Prodrive USA opening. I certainly would be interested in PPPing my next scooby and the new shape (US 04) will be here in May.

Oh f*** $*** #***.... so the Caterham AND the Impreza are shafted due to emissions

Now I know why the only fast cars you see here are 911s, and I sure as hell can't afford one of them

Ah, another six months of my Seat Marbella... what bliss...

Question

Just a thought...

As it's the EcuTec process now being used for the PPP, will the ECU now be remappable should someone decide to further modify their WRX?

Can anybody with technical knowledge explain why the MY03 PPP won't fit the MY02?
I thought the MY03 used a remapped version of the earlier ECU.

Why do ppl always assume that owners of PPP Uksti7 will be pi$$ed off. I,m certainly not. After all Ive got a limited edition as well unlike the sti8 which every Tom Dick & Harry will be driving by the sound of it.

Chip

Happy PPP Sti 7 owner.

The "stages" thing got me thinking, as it looks like you are offering different things the the US owners.

Now that the EU warranty is a factory warranty, instead of being supplied by the local importer, how does fitting a PPP affect this?

And do US cars get 3 years factory warranty, or is it only Europe?

Speaking as an STi 7 owner, no I'm not pissed off about the new WRX - why would I be? After all, I've got the LSD at the front as well as the rear (and it's FAB!!! ), decent brakes as standard, a bigger turbo, bigger intercooler, water spray (but who knows if it actually makes any difference), nicer seats, a 6 speed gearbox (which I think is great!), a scoop which hasn't been beaten with the ugly stick () and am in a position to get a lot more power and torque out of it without changing anything but the exhaust.... (or a PPP if I feel inclined )

You can't stop progress and I'm pleased to see the WRX is being raised in profile and remember, the better STi's are probably not far around the corner too. If you buy a new car, it's always going to be out of date in no time at all, it's a fact of life - there's no point being pissed off about it, you just accept it.

Matt

P.S. I paid £23k from new for mine so I'm less bothered about the UK pricing anyway

Stephen,

I thought the MY03 used a remapped version of the earlier ECU.
As I understand it, the MY03 WRX PPP is a remap plus the usual exhaust bits so I don't think that theoretically the MY03 PPP wouldn't work on an MY02 WRX, it's just that I don't think you could buy one (IM check you VIN number when you buy the PPP so they know what it's being fitted on).

Just been doing some reading around on the subject.

The 03 PPP won't fit an 01/02 car, as the engine and related subsystems are too different. Apparently Power and torque are pretty much the same as the STi at 265ps and 257lbft but the torque is higher than a std STi from about 3000-5000. So it I guess it has a very flat torque curve!

Now, thinking back to what I read on gearing is that probably the reason the 0-60 time looks good compared to an STi is that a WRX gets past 60 in 2nd whereas an STi will only do 58.5mph in 2nd. So the extra time is taken up by a gear change.

Just my 2p

Neil - Autocar timed a standard STI at less than 5 seconds to 60 - 4.8 or 4.9 I think,

D,

I remember. Anyway I doubt if anyone will get anywhere near to those times without trashing the car.

Congrats to Prodrive though, it's a stunning bit of kit.

Will a Uk dealer for the PPP to a my03 Eu import from Belgium. Will the belgium warranty be unaffected.

Is the PPP available in Belgium would i have to get the PPP fitted in belgium to maintain the warranty ???.

Not that the wife will be to keen on spending more money in making the wrx any quicker as she thinks it is too quick allready.

cheers

Peter

Question

WRX MY03 with PPP = 1395 KG, 265 bhp with 255 ft. lbs = 4.8 secs 0-60 mph

JDM STI-7 with zorst and remapp (and a 2nd gear that can hit 60 mph due to higher redline on the JDM) 1430 KG, 320 bhp 310 ft. lbs. = low 4's 0 - 60 mph ? also you think that it could do the 1/4 under 13 secs ?

Cheers,
Ray

PS: Yes I love messin with extrapolations

Please see my answer in the other thread.

Edited to say that the power graphs etc will appear on our website in the not too distant future.

Thanks, Nick.

Unhappy

I'm one of the unhappy STi7 owners referred to above. I like the car, don't get me wrong, but the value of my car has plumetted with each sucessive bit of info about the WRXs and STi8s. I thought that (as far as cars go) mine might be reasonably sound investment - I stretched my finances to the limit to get the Prodrive style at £27500 about a year ago. The release of the face-lifted car was the first blow to my car's depreciation followed by the £2500 price cut and now the last straw, a WRX with PPP and similar power to my car for £21000.

I appreciate the differences between the STi and WRX and the fact that ultimately a modified STi (PPP or otherwise) would be a faster and alround better car. Can't help feeling a little betrayed however. Maybe getting the PPP would restore my faith in the car, if finances would allow....

Rant over - does anybody have details of the ECUtek version of the PPP. Is this the one that is available now and it is compatible with the STi7. Last thing I want to do is buy the PPP just before they release a better version - sounds familiar.

D.
