Can anyone shed anymore light on why the PPP wouldn't fit an 02 model??

Surely the car is mechanicaly the same under the bonnet??

Or is it just a sales thing to make people want to buy the 03 models?

Stu

The engines are subtly different, as is the intercooler design.
I very much doubt that prodrive would spend all that money developing a new kit if the old one worked.

I was just wondering if it was just the use of the Ecutek map that gave the power increase.

I wonder then if they would be considering using the highly sucessful Ecutek map in future 01/02 PPP's or are they just gonna forget about us owners??

I suspect prodrive would'nt get back the money spent to 'redo' the 01/02 PPP's.

If they could have got more out of the car safely, they would have already done so.

Does moving the 03 WRX + PPP so close to the current STi performance mean that the future STi will be the 2.5 litre version soon out in the US?
If so, why release the STi8 so soon?

I think I'll let things settle for 6 months then buy my STi 2.5 Litre Forester then.

Neil

If Ecutek can get the power from a WRX surely then if Prodrive used the same map, which is already finalised, it would be fairly cheap to do.

Seems to me that IM are doing a good job of pi$$ing off their existing customer base, the price changes for STi's, making the WRX cheaper new and now the PPP.

Question

OK - I have read all the thread - and need urgent advice - definitive if possible.

My MY01 WRX is booked in for the PPP on Wednesday - having waited almost 2 years to do this I will be sick as a dog if the new MY03 PPP turns out to be suitable for MY01 cars.

At the time of ordering with the local dealer I asked whether the new PPP could be fitted. I was told no - because the PPP order form required you to choose MY01 or MY03. It is possible the dealer was in a state of ignorance - as the MY03 PPP is so new.

So - can MY03 PPP be fitted to MY01 car - and if so what is the source of the advice - so that I can convince my local garage.

Thanks for any help guys

It's not just the ECU and the software for the map. There are changes to the exhaust system as well. In any case I very much doubt Subaru would sell you one.

Reply to Butty.
Quite simple.
I.M.s new policy, sell a few cars to loyal buyers, then update it so the previous one plummets in value.
I'm sure the 2.5 cars will be coming, say next year, with the same power as standard as todays ppp cars.
Now progress is fine and i like price cuts but when the car u just bought falls in value like a vectra (ok not quite that bad) i get the feeling I could spend my hard-earned elsewhere...

Great news. I knew this was a possibility so when I changed my MY99 last year I did so on a 2 year lease.

Mrs P wanted a Forrester but we have reached a compromise over a Wagon, with PPP.... Can't wait!!!
