New Look Impreza

i am guessing most of you have seen the new look Impreza MY03. What are your opinions? Personally I think it looks ****. I saw the prodrive version and it looks as agresive as a Fiesta 1.1

Actually I hate skateboarding and people who do stuff because it is fashionable! Why do people always generalise teenagers? And actually I know quite a lot about cars!

I can asure you, that there are loads of people in this BBS with such a knowledge about cars that will change your opinion about your level of knowledge. As regarding the comment about the looks of the new Impreza, i think its different compared to the MY01 as was the MY01 to the classic shape. These cars are not made to be liked by everyone, as is Focus/Astra/Mondeo etc. .
Last but not least, the comment about the aggresion of the new Impreza being compared to the one of the Fiesta 1.1 is at least laughable.

I love scoobys and yes i know there are many people who have a higher knowledge then me, I just feel it is lacking the wow factor when you look at it. I dont think people will stare at it the way they did with the older models.

Maybe the reason for not having the WOW factor anymore, is that the new Impreza is just a facelift. Maybe the WOW factor depends on how often you see a certain car on the streets.

WGAF = Who cares. Not a very grown up remark either, in my opinion.
I happen to like the new scoobies. I agree, they do lack the "90's aggressive looks" of the classic, but then I have to be honest the bugeyes looked about as agressive as a nissan micra in standard form....hence why I have yet to see an unmodified one! (you know who you are, guys!)
The newer ones are "understated". This is something I am still learning to deal with, but as the Japanese car market "grows up" and tries to intrude further on the share held by BMW and Audi, their cars are naturally going to become more understated. I still prefer Japanese styling.
The Lancer Evo is a good example. The earlier models looked like they were designed by (and I mean this in a nice way) a 15 year old. They are great looking, but extremely "in your face" which is much the way a young mans mind works. As you get older, your brain chemistry changes, and you start to value "second looks"....i.e. cars that don't scream out "Steal me, key my paint work and kick my body panels in" but say more "I worked hard, and I have this damn nice car that you only noticed becuase you are a car enthusiast" It's all about taking key "branding" styling cues and bringing them forward into something that is subtle and consumer acceptable. Your average customer paying £20,000 for a car doesn't want anything too ostentatious. Subaru are naturally after the greatest market share, so they are going to cater to these guys.
This doesn't mean you are wrong! Nobody is wrong. What you find attractive is entirely up to you. I love that classic scoob shape (mmmm....MY99 please!), I find the BugEyes rather unappealing, and I have to admit I kind of like the BlobEye...even if it does seem to have more than a nod towards a certain german manufacturer.
Perhaps you should reserve full judgement until the fully kitted STi versions appear on the street.
The main point with the Impreza is the perfect driving experience. Not too raw, not too numb. The looks are (for most people) secondary.

Personally I think the MY03 is a big improvement over the 01, 02. But not as aggressive as the early MY.
So is a car mad 15 yr old not allowed an opinion on the new scoob??? Far better for him to be car mad than act like some of the 15 yr old muppets around my area. P!ssed up and arrogant mouthy b@stards.

In terms of performance, the Impreza is leaping closer to the ever so elusive top spot over the Evo. The gap between the two models is really closing in now......but what will Mitsubishi throw at the public next? I can't see it being any less aggressive than the Evo has been all along.
Looks wise with the MY03....it is a step in the right direction, but doesn't hold the same aggressive stance of that of the classic Impreza (MY98-MY00).
The WRC looks awesome though.
All IMHO.

Ian, looks arent everything and are always in the eye of the beholder. When you get out of the demonstrators MY03 with a **** eatin' grin you know its time to trade in your old MY00.

I must say i completely agree with Little miss wrx on this 1.
Performance is going up but to me the '03 model doesnt have the same look/attitude as the pre bugeye models.
To me the bugeye is just a dodge neon.

Thankyou for your opinions, I jst have to learn to appretiate other peoples opinions. Does any one no what car Subaru are rallying with at the mo and when they are going to rally the nw one if they aren't already?

The scoob has never been an oil painting. The MY98+ had a great aggressive face, the MY01/02 lost the plot completely (bulges on the OUTside of the bonnet, bugeyes...) and the MY03 has taken a lot of styling cues from the original.
Rum's car (MY03 sti) and my car (MY00 turbo) were parked next to each other yesterday. The only major change in styling cue between the two is the shape of the radiator air intake - mine's a happy smile, the 03 is downturned. Other than that, you can definitely see the pedigree.
Seeing the two cars side by side, it made me wonder WTF Subaru were smoking with the MY01... Sorry MY01/02 owners, but I think they lost it big style with the styling (cars are still good tho)

I love my MY02 Bugly Duckling, I like the classic and the new shape too. I don't reckon that any of them win prizes for looks but they all look like they mean business. :-)
