Must admit when on my test drive forgot to turn the stereo on....I believe the quality of it is none too good...for those that have actually heard it is it an improvement on the standard MY98....and what suggestions do you have for an upgrade..
I usually listen to Rock CDs and Radio stations such as XFM ((in the London area) + Radio 5

The speakers you are recommending...is that for the front doors as well as the rear parcel shelf?

The speakers are in the front and rear doors (not parcel shelf), the standard double din unit is crap, what you want is ther Clarion ADZ628R double din unit, a six disc multi loader

and some decent Blaupunkt speakers

which is the set up in my 7, i also seem to have similar listening tastes to you, and the system is good for those

you can get them from www.caraudiodirect.com

The standard double DIN unit in the WRX is Kenwood I've been told.

Can anyone confirm speaker sizes in doors of MY03 as I'll be wanting to upgrade mine too when I get it.

Andy.

I thought the standard ice was pretty average. Head unit an Amstrad looking single disc effort. Because of the non-standard extra height of it, it you would have to put a standard unit in with some nasty plastic surround or get something same height. I agree the door speakers have to go. My other concern was that the rear speakers are so low their sound is obscured by the back of the seat. The only way to get GOOD sound would be replace head unit, door speakers and add amp and bass unit in the boot.

I reckon you have 3 choices:-
1. Don't touch any of it
2. Replace the lot
3. Turn it off and listen to the engine

When mine arrives mid-march I'm going with option 3

Hmmm methinks this is heading towards 'Max Power' territory.
Would agree with option 3 but even with a PPP it isn't 'that' loud
