Would you be thinking of using the Lambo on a day to day basis? Rumour has it they are knackering to drive.
Many cars can be had for 50k, and i'm sure someone will suggest buying sommat for 30k and then a Westfield. Options are endless.
I say get a 355

Ferrari 355! Trouble is at this price range of used supercar - you can pick a lot of car up for the money but the running costs are astronimical. Don't the earlier Ferraris need cambelts/servicing every few K miles?
Not sure about the early Lambos but I'm betting they cost a few thousand ££ in servicing/parts to keep on the road for just a few thousand miles.

I'd go for a Ferrari 355. If you need to be convinced go and have a listen to one. That will probably be enough without driving it. It would also feel like you had arrived in life knowing that you have a Ferrari in the garage - but you would have to deal with the running costs. I believe that a 6000 mile service is about £1000 for a 355 at a main dealer. I think they also need the cam belt changing every 25000 miles at a cost of about £2500. On the other hand Mid engined 380bhp, 8000rpm.....

If you want something thats a bit of an Animal to drive but will turn heads maybe a TVR Cerbra, OK NOT the most reliable car in the world but you could spend less & get a fairly decent runner with the rest, theres loads of cheap older scoobs for sale at the moment. I would forget the Lambo, you are paying way under what the car cost new & the running costs arent cheaper just because its older, Get a quote for servicing costs, the price of a set of tyres & also wheres your nearest dealer. Also rear view is virtually non existent, nice to have a police magnet you cant easily see out the back of.
Went on the Cannonball with a guy who had a modded RS4, approx 450 bhp then when he hit the Nitro I think it was 600+. Didnt look much different to a normal Audi estate but aparently achieved something close to 200 in Germany.
That would be my dream

I sold my P1 about 16 months ago and bought a Porsche 968 Club Sport. It is not quite as quick on back roads as the scoob, but is still plenty fast. The key difference is that you as a driver have to work to get it to go fast, rather than the car doing most of the stuff for you. The porker is also leagues ahead in other areas e.g. much better engine (smoother, more responsive, nicer sound), great steering, better turn-in than the P1, easily controllable power oversteer, superior brakes, brilliant & adjustable handling, better gearshift. It is also a far better track car than the P1. The scooby wins on practicality, outright pace, all-weather ability & traction, stable/safe handling, and the fact that anyone can go stupidly fast in it.
My view after 12 months was that the P1 is an awesome A to B tool, perhaps the best bang per buck in that respect out of any car around (Evo VI is the other challenger, then you have to go up to 911 turbos etc). However it is not as involving as a driver's car compared to my 968. The porker is also cheaper to run, reliable, cost £11k and depreciates about 1k per year.
Even for a £50k budget, it is worth considering. I used to own an R34 Skyline (good but overrated IMO) and the 968 is better handling and more fun to drive.
If you want something more exotic, how about a 993 RS - that is a real animal of a car. Or how about a LHD GT3? Very fast car, great engine & handling, although IMO it is not quite as raw and exciting as the older 911s. The 355 is a very sexy car, £50k will get you a nice one on a private sale. They are not quite as fast as you'd think, but look and sound amazing. As a bit of a wild card, and if you can afford high running costs, what about a LHD 550 Maranello, they are available at £50k now. 485bhp, V12, RWD - makes the alternatives look lightweight in comparison. Front-engine rear drive should give balanced handling compared to (say) a Diablo, oversteer on demand, and the ability to snap knicker elastic at 500 yards.

Take a new VXT for a test drive next month, if your not a badge snob I think you will be pleasantly surprised by its pace and you will still get a fun car to drive and a very rare car for the future.
Just leaves a dilemma then on what to spend the other 24k on? Car, Hifi, first class QE2 trip, prostitutes ... god the choice is endless!
