After almost 6 years Scooby ownership and three cars (MY97/99/01), it's time to move on. Circumstances (IE. no job soon) have driven this decission to a certain extent... but so has the urge to try something different. Must admit to having been a little disappointed with no. 3!!! The looks I could live with, but the lack of real grunt compared to either of the other cars has been a bit of a turn off. Yes... I suppose that I could have mod'd it, but could not be arsed to be honest. I tried my hardest to enjoy the last two years with old Buggy, but somehow the "fire" seemed to have gone out. So it's off to a new home as soon as the new motor arrives (next week... or I burn the garage down!). Not that it was a "bad" car, just that it has moved so far from the "spirit" of what SCooby ownership was all about (well to me anyway). Must admit not too chuffed either with how little I've got as a trade in for it (£11.6k at two years old with 40k miles ... though would be a lot worse for a mainstream motor).

Now what's the new car to be... Looked for something "interesting", must not be too expensive, cheap to run and also have that "fun" factor. So.... how about a car with some 230 fpt and around 200kg lighter than a Scoob! Don't laugh... A Seat Ibiza tdi130. Autocars only critisism was of the handling... well I test drove one the other week and don;t know if they've done anythink with the springs/dampers etc. but once you get used to the plough on understeer and the body roll, it aint too bad. Goes like Shiite of a shovel. Certainly gave the young lad in the Renault 19 16v a bit of a shock.

Time will tell I suppose... but I'm actually looking forward to this.

Take care folks and maybe I'll be back...

Enjoy... and remember, any car can be "fun".

Mooch over to the TDi forum at http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/ and you'll find at least two more ex-Scooby TDi Sport owners... me included

What tyres you got? Mine has come with Dunlop SP2000 and I thought dry grip was pretty good (so far!).

PS. Kerb weight on the Ibiza is approx 1200kg.

Ta... I'll pop over and have a look.

I'll let you know about the tyres when I pick it up, hopefully next week.

PS. Kerb weight Ibiza 1192kg, WRX 1385... So that makes the Ibiza 193kg lighter. Almost 200kg in fact.

PPS. Don't happen to know if the standard CD/radio can connect to a remote CD shuttle do you? I have a decent Alpine but have a sneaky feeling I'll need an Alpine head unit.

Pah.... Looks like the dealers "it will be ready in 7/10 days sir" was the usual wind up! Looks like another two weeks. Not as though I'm too worried, as the Scooby is their car now and I'll just continue to put 400+ miles on it each week. I'm not a patient man though.

45mpg on a swift cross country run is a bit different from 25mpg. 350 miles down the motorway from £25 of diesel is also nice...

Add in *free* insurance (saved me £650 this year) and the savings add up.

Chris.

I'll mention three letter A P R

They work wonders with the new VAG diesel engine, it will surprise you how quick it can make the diesel.

Thanks

I'll ignore the attempt at humour...

Quite impressed with the new car so far. Though have to agree with Autocar's comments about the "spring/dampers" being some attempt at a half way house between "sporting" and "comfort". I'll see how what it's like after a few miles before being too critical. You certainly can't fault the "fit and finish".

Do I miss the Scooby? Not yet.... Though as I'll be up Perth way at the end of the month, think I'll see if my friendly dealler will let me try the demo's out. Got to start thinking about that "next car"....

Enjoy....

Thumbs up

A sensible upgrade over the scoob and obviously a big leap in performance terms go easy with it.

Ahh, I was comparing kerb weight to my MY99/00 UK Turbo Mike.

Not sure on the head unit, but I'm sure somebody on the Seat board will know more - very friendly bunch

There's also a nice discussion of the rolling road results for two remap TDi Sports. 180bhp and 300 lb/ft
