HI EVREYONE
i just managed 2 find this page so i am joining up cos at some point in the coming year i am going 2 buy an impreza
first things first
i obvisouly want a turbo model, i think the sti and such models would b a bit impractical for me, but i think i will get a WRX model
so these are all imported from japan is that right?
can i get them from a subaru dealer then?
i wanted a 99 model
but then i read somewhere on here about the 99 model having a smaller turbo and so it has less of a kick to it? or somehting?
i decided 98 or 99 model and aint sure which
so i am gonna b checking on here regularly to learn as much as i can b4 i buy it, so i dont go in blind like i did with my current car (calibra turbo bloody nitemare!!!)
i live in cardiff and i see a lot of subarus around - it was seeing one with an impreza owners club sticker on it which prompted me 2 search 4 a page like this!
just sayin hello 2 everyone

You say you want a 99 model .. a '99 Turbo 2000 is UK spec Impreza (215 BHP), a '99 WRX will be a jap import (260 BHP .. I think ?), a '99 WRX STi will be a jap import (276 BHP). These are 'classic' style Impreza's.
The confusion comes with the bug-eyed models where UK cars are now called WRX i.e. there is now no longer a model called an Impreza Turbo 2000.
Does this help.
Doofus.

Hi Mike
Before i start let me say that i am certainly no expert.
I have only owned a scooby since last sept
Mine is a MY98 turbo 2000 wagon (ugly bum version)!
As far as the wrx thing is concerned, perhaps it was more of
a marketing thing to capitalize on the rally success of subaru.
. That will set the cat amongst the pigeons!
I believe that smaller turbos spool up faster ,but i am
probably wrong there as well!
If you check out www.sidc.co.uk and look at the FAQ , it
should answer most of your questions for you.
One thing i do know for certain.
If you do get one-
. IT WILL TAKE DAYS TO WIPE THE SMILE OFF YOUR FACE!
Good luck with your search.
Greg.

the turbos on my97 onwards(on classic shape) had the,
it is a smaller turbo than previous model cars but has the advantage of a quicker spool up for more twisty driving.
The turbo is not a problem unless you want to break the 290-300 bhp barrier in which case you want a TD05 model fitted to the earlier uk's or the wrx's.
Both turbo's do their job well but the TD05 can go hell for leather(what ever that means) just dont worry about which model to get they will all please you, untill the modding bug hits...
Which wont be long.
And welcome..
P.s I have an my97 and love it more than the missus, I must do I spend more on it..(she said)

You may find that some of the later import WRXs actually run VF turbos rather than TD series turbos. My My00 WRX runs a VF29 turbo same as the MY00 STI, it maybe different being an RA model and I woudl guess if you are looking at an MY99 WRX and it had the same STI turbo off a V5 it would have a VF28.
There is more than just power between the UK and JDM cars. the JDM cars tend to come fully specified ie. air con, upgraded interior, different dash layout but no bright switch .

hi there...
The Jap import WRX's do indeed have a lot of differences compared to the UK equivalents. these include engine components
and bodywork such the ally bonnet and various other parts to keep the weight down, and therefore increased performance.
I know this is true as far as the classic shape WRX,s are concerned but can’t comment on the difference between the UK and Jap bug eyes.
It’s most definately not a marketing ploy due to its foreign breeding. Hi gregg
