Solution to bring posts in lesser seen forums to light in General
#1
There is often a time when people post things in General because their posts do not get coverage in the specific forum - e.g. Wheels and Tyres, Interiors.
This creates two postings. The postings in General tends to get responses but the posting in the specific forum doesnt not - so people do have a useful response, but the answer is not there when browsing the specific forum and is typically lost in the busy General forum.
To stop this need for double posting - how about a solution that just brings attention to the posting.
Some thoughts:
Clickety Scrolling List of Recent posts in lesser used forums. visable on the general forum page.
Option to tag a post as 'escalated' to needing more coverage.
Additional forum for 'needing more coverage'?

maybe use the report to moderator function?
requesting that the post be given more coverage?
the mod could then move it to the 'more coverage' forum?
once the posting has had coverage - move back to the proper forum?
bit of work for the mods tho.

How about moving this thread into a "useless and already obvious" forum so i can read it twice - im sure the fun of reading it again will finally put me to sleep......

maybe move twice?
to 'more coverage' and then back to the proper forum so as to create an entry in the more coverage forum that has the link back to the post in the proper forum?

Said this a while ago, too many forums and if you have a post moved they may as well have deleted it .
The meeting forums are good as they are used to set up events also used to communicate with people in your own area which can be useful sometimes. I know some posts have been requests for help and/or advice from local owners.
Bikers forum, whats the point shouldnt that be in other marques anyway?
DIY - where did that one come from LOL, come on why dont we have a pet corner and agony aunt forum.
Sports - arent there any sport BBS ?
Acessories forums could all be in one called accessories.
I coudl go on but I get the feeling a lot of the forums have been generated to massage the egos of a few memebers who want to be moderators, jobs for the girls and boys .
Please, please please can we have a train spotting forum so I can be a moderator .

How about people not posting repetitious crap all the time, but using the search facility to identify a indentical requirement.
I'm sure most people aren't interested in "which spoiler looks best" and "what colour should I paint my bedroom" threads.
If a little bit more thought process what initiated from the backend of the brain which is drowned in cobwebs, this will reduce the forums need for a discussion folder for every subject.

Not much fun if we dont have 25 threads on :
The impreza flowchart (not seen it for a week or so )
The impreza in the frozen lake picture
The new MY03
The new MY02
The new MY01
The Focus RS
The STIG (who is he anyway )
10K to spend which car
10K to spend which mods
Nosiest exhaust
Nosiest dump valve
Best oil
Fuel
Impreza v <insert any car, bike, boat,plane,push bike here>
Whats the difference between a UK and a JDM car
Best tyres
How do I do smilies
How do I post pictures
I still think most of this info has been discussed to the end and back and would be useful info if collected together.
My only feeling is that a BB like 22B is filled with long term subaru owners so they arent going to ask newbie questions.
This is a problem on scoobynet and has been for a while as its a larger community with loads of new members all with the same questions filling up general. A newbie questions forum would be worth a lot more to the community than a DIY forum IMHO as it might take the flack off the general forum. Any newbie questions can be moved to the newbie forum.
At the moment there are so many threads flying around in general that some newbies are asking questions and looks like people cant be bothered to answer the question. Surely if you come in as a newbie and ask a question and dont get a reply then you either ask it again or get the impression you are not in with the crowd and leave. Surely its about attracting new members and keeping them ?.
As more people get net access and more people buy subarus this problem will only get worse IMHO .

Couldn't agree more with Chrisp. Still consider myself to be very much a newbie and I'm always nervous about posting questions that have been asked a thousand times without pissing everyone off. Why not have a 'most asked questions' area where people (esp newbies) can browse b4 posting. SN can get quite clicky sometimes , which can be off-putting to newbies - we should be encouraging new blood and endeavouring to make this one of the best (welcoming/useful/friendly?) BBS.
Anyone need a soapbox now I've finished with it ? :-)

Totally agree with AJT's post, I too am a newbie encouraged to take the plunge into Scoob ownership by the sell off of the 02's, and having been an active member of the Peugeot GTI Autosport forum have maybe been spoiled by their excellent site, but I too have loads of questions on items for the car that have no doubt been asked to death and am afraid to ask cos you get slagged off, but the search facility is so dire that it is of no use at all. The PGAC has a web designer as a member who customises the standard bbs layout with some brilliant results (worth a look if you have never been on) Surely there is someone on here with the same skill and inclination?
