FYI, The US has some of the BEST roads in the world. Even in crowded metro areas, such as the SF bay area. We have about 50 awesome roads, some of them are 70 miles long! Through forests, up mountains, etc. Please don't diss the US, and stereotype us as some redneck nascar hicks. We're not like that.

Hmmm well dont get me wrong but those stats look like the same as those for the C Type, 300ps and 300lbs of torque is about right and from a 2ltr engine and not a 2.5ltr engine.
I really doubt that the japanese would build a new 2.5ltr engine just for the states when they have a 2ltr one that does the same thing (and they sell more cars in europe than they do in the states also, plus the same for japan ).

I'm afraid Andrewza is right. Further, some eejits are already talking about modding it "for more power."

The proof in the pudding will be when the car arrives, and how many of the mouthers pony up the bucks to have one in their garages. You lads should visit www.impreza.net to have a good laugh.

Personally, it has a bit too much visual excitement for me, though it is a prodigious performance beastie. I'm waiting for the 2.5T Legacy, however. My WRX wagon is my last Impreza.

Look at it this way. The UK had a killer WRX for years, with plenty of horsepower and all, while all we had was the RS. Y'all have the P1, and other house-rocking rides. It's about time we got a little lovin'.

Excuse some of our countrymen... I've actually driven some great roads in the US, around Boston. Hell, they even have roundabouts there! (Rotaries ).

Mind you, no bugger knows how to use them!

With the slating the European ressidents and Press gave the MY01 what does everyone expect. Toys fell out of the pram so Subaru gave them to another country.

I have driven around a rotary (roundabout) in boston and can safely say that no one has a clue on what they're doing. Your life in their hands. Every one was a bit like driving around the arc de triomphe in Paris.

I've also driven in Boulder, Colorado and up into the mountains. Now *that* was fun, even in the Outback that I'd hired which was so detached from my daily drive that I had to check it really was a Subaru...

I must agree with the comments about US drivers. There ought to be a law. The current suv trend has turned the little ole lady into the road warrior once behind the wheel of such a behemoth. Even the wifey has turned to this dark side of thinking.....but still has to be reminded to shift into 4WD mode when it snows . There needs to be more driver education. Period. Makes me want to move the Canada.

I was obviously only joking about US roads, hence the smilie, I'm sure once you get off the main roads there's some good fun to be had.

Just seems to be to be a prevalence for racing in a straight line and imho I can't think of anything more boring, you get to try and destroy your drivetrain and minimal driver involvment. Then again I don't feel a particular need to prove anything to anyone with regards my car, I just own it because it's fun to drive.

Thanks for the offer, but I already have an STi and a normal commute on some nice wet and twisty suffolk A and B roads that provides much entertainment

As for the US STi, very nice, would love one and will probably be the next Subaru I buy, if not then my current one is my last and I'll be looking elsewhere for my fun. Even if we do get it over here I bet you can just replace the $ with a £ and forget any conversion.

They are much bigger market than us, hence they've got to the effort to make an STi that both passes their tighter emissions regulations and still beats an evo. Now that they've taken the cost hit of developing it, it would make sense for them to sell it in all their markets to get as much return for their investment as possible. However for us there's eu type approval, so I guess they can't just drop it into the MY03 STi, so they'll probably wait till they have other changes they want to make (the next full facelift?) that will require going through type approval before they do it. I could be wrong though.
