..and then (unfortunately) given it up, have you followed thru the practices of warming up the engine before you first drive off ?
Any other 'quirks' you've continued to follow ?

Looking for the boost guage on an normally aspirated car ?

Funniest thing is when i drive the other halfs clio a wait for the turbo to cool down when finished driving. DOH!.

i dont warm up the engine before setting off but i dont give it any till warm and i do wait for it to cool down before swiching off ..... cheers chris

I've been warming up the engine since it's been deathly cold up here in Scotland at the mo, however I probably will lose patience once the climate changes again.

I heard starting the engine up and leaving it running from cold was a bad thing, it should be warmed up by driving it normally. Something to so with carbon deposits !! ....but hey....that's just what i heard...

Surely the point of using fully synthetic oil is that it doesn't require a warm up period before you can drive off!
I'm not saying redline the car from cold but c'mon guys, lighten up a bit.

Any car I drive, I leave in reverse when it's parked -- since I owned a Saab (you have to put them in reverse to get the keys out).

Since i got my Focus. I also let the engine warm up & Let it cool down

Apart from that, I got used to it quite quickly Not that it matters, because i'm about to sell it again Shame, cause the car has so much potential, and would be amazing with a few mods

hi guys,

can't be bothered to go into the detail but NEVER let the car sit and idle to warm up - due to gas condensing and eating into the cylinder walls. there are several other factors as well.

also, other fluids such as gearbox oil and differential oil will not warm up.

just jump in and drive gently till you're up to temperature.

ive twice tried getting the focus into sixth, worrying thing is its gone in, reverse on the focus, at about 60 mph, remembered before i took my foot off the clutch !!!!!!!!

Well I swapped the scoob for another 2litre turbo charged car, this one with a FMI, clear side repeaters, leather seats, climate control as standard. But I still forget that when you plant the right foot, it doesn't quite respond as well. It might be the auto box but on the otherhand, it might be becuase its a SAAB

I always let my car warm up gently, and wait until the oil temp is at 75 degrees before any serious right foot planting takes place. Don't leave your car to idle to warm up. It's bad practice and can cause issues as mentioned above. Just drive gently until at working temp.

I've got cute little lights on the rev-counter that count back to 7000 rpm and let the driver know where the "redline" should be. They start at 4000 rpm when the car is cold, and extinguish themselves the warmer the car gets. One of the best features! LOL

It's rather nice just being able to switch the thing off after a blat too, rather than letting it idle.

Ive read a car left on tick over parked to warm up is just as damaging , best to drive striaght away and take it easy for a few miles

Don't thrash it when first start it, and let it cool for two minutes after a hard thrash.
