Parallel Import and warrantee
Do I have to have the car serviced at a Subaru dealership to keep it under warrantee, if not does the VAT registered garage claim under the warrant or do I have to do this.

That sounds positive
I did not want the Subaru dealership taking revenge on me for not buying a uk model i.e. charging me over the top and telling me silly storeys about incompatibility.
I take it that most garages don’t see the wrx impreza as a problem to service, it’s just like any other make car to them.

If its a new EU supplied Subaru I'd have thought you'd definitely need to get it done at a main dealer for the warranty to be valid?
Not all Scoob dealers will rip you off. Up to now I've used FR Pulleyn at York. There are so many parallel imports about now that the dealers would be stupid to turn away servicing work on 'em.

Yep Cypriot cars are no classed as EU cars and anything outside the EU is classed as a grey import and therefore has no pan european warranty. Becareful a lot of car supermarkets seem to be selling Cypriot cars and peopel find out they have no manufacturers warranty. You definitely need to have the EU COC (certificate of conformity)

due to new ruleings about forcing you to go to main dealers you can in the first year take it to any vat reg garage for sevicing if the manufacturer does not say this then they are telling pokies
its an eu ruleing .........chris

Yep the first year is a pan european warranty so as long as the sevice schedule is followed and done by a knowledge garage and authorised parts are used you should be okay. On a UK car years 2 and 3 given by Subaru UK and nothing to do with peuropean warrnaty and they say it must be service by one of their agents to keep the warranty, if you take it elsewhere they can void your warranty. Not sure about EU imports as they use to only have 1 year warrnaty but some now have 3 years warranties I guess it the same and they must be service by a Subaru agent in the UK.
Heard a rumour this is changing either in 2003 or 2004 to allow it to be serviced anywhere and the manufacturer has to live with it. Should be interesting as I can see a few problems in the future.

Just glad I have a grey import, I can mod it and get it serviced and fixed where I want. Just means it comes out of my pocket when things go worng.
As someone once told me when things go wrong its an opportunity to upgrade the broken bit so it wont break again (hopefully ). So why do I have loads of perfectly good bits which have been replaced .

Yes all the rulles are changing about where you get the sevicing done adn the new cars come with 2 years + 1 year insurance warrenty because its a insurance policy then they got you by the bitts but then again it is still forcing you to go to a certain place and pay a high price e.g
15000k sevice subaru 198
specalist sevice 120
15000k sevice subaru 198
specalist sevice 120

I will enjoy it when it comes, hate the waiting but it is giving me time to save the pennies.
Will I notice much difference going from my old Rover 216GLS to a 2.0ltr turbo impreza wrx.
I do hope so

ChrisP,
If I recall correctly from November 2001 all EU cars had to come with TWO YEARS pan European warrenty as a minimum.
I know my Dutch imported Alfa does, got two years Manufactures and two years dealer warrenty and saved £6500 on UK list price.

I heard that all cars sold in Europe after Oct 2002 had to have a minimum of 2 years manufacturer warranty. Some manufacturers (Toyota and Honda) have gone straight to 3 years manufacturer warranty and I have heard that Subaru have done the same.
Official importers have only been able to insist that you have your car serviced at their dealers/agents, during the period of the warranty which they supply.
I am trying to confirm whether Subaru are now 2 years or 3 years.

If its like mine then subaru wont do the warrenty work and the vat reg garage who do the work usually claim you should not have to pay up front ............................. cheers chris

You register the car with Subaru Uk (international motors) from then on its on the Subaru UK computer and you take it in as usual. You may find that certain stuff thats done no problem on UK cars may not be done unless authorised by the Subaru importer of the country you brought it from. The warranty is pan-european so they cant refuse to look after it unless you have broke the rules of the warranty and servicing and modifications.
