new impreza import
#1
Hello i was wondering if any one con give me some advice?
I am currently in talks attempting to buy a 1996 impreza sport estate from Japan.
where can i get a speedo converter/delimiter and how much? (i have JW Racing is the way to go)
Are there any other thing apart from the fog light needed for the SVA?
And does any one know the BHP of the 2.0 sport? i have seen 115bhp quoted and this seems a little low for a 2litre 16v..

There's no such thing as an Impreza Sport in Japan, but they do have one called the 'SRX'. That car is the JDM equivalent of the UK Sport, but has a 155ps 4-cam engine, which can be said as a de-turboed WRX.

Cheers for the info Clarence, that sounds a much more sensible power output for a 2 litre,
Im still a little unclear as to the actual model of the car though, the details are...
1996 Impreza Wagon HX 20S (2 litre non turbo)
chassis - GF8-021020

Ok, I think the car u're after should have the N/A 4-cam engine, but still best to check.
The HX-20S was later called the SRX.
The UK Sport has a much lower power output cos it only has a SOHC 2.0 engine.

go to the department of transport website they have all the details of what is needed for SVA.
Must ask the question though.. why are bringing over a model like that? Resale may be a bit of a bugger.

some of us cant afford a WRX!!! so its a watered down Scooby or a Ford Focus!!! I plan to have the car for a few years so the resale isnt top of my list of priorities.
My brother brought over a Skyline earlier this year so I know the outline proceure and the legal side of the importation, but the DoT or VI wont tell you if the speedo is cable driven or electronic, or if the fuel neck is the correct diamiter... thats what you guys, the specialists are here for!
I was hoping there were some people here that had actually imported the cars themselves and so would know these things...

I have imported cars - lots of them, I own my car importing business.
Pre 97 I believe is cable driven and you will need a fuel neck jobbie. The Speedo converter will cost about £50 plus VAT/Postage and a fuel filler neck about £25. Don't quote me on that tho as I outsource most of that work as it's far quicker.
Personally I'd go for the focus if it's the same money.
Matt.
