Hey All !!!
I've decided on what Exhaust to get, but as the day is approaching fitment of the system inclusin decat downpipe, I'm starting to get a little worried about what my neighbours are gonna think !!
I mean, with the std STi exhaust on, it sets off his car alarm when the exhaust note echo's between the 2 houses, so god only knows whats gonna happen with my new decatted downpipe and Apexi GT Spec Exhaust is gonna do at 7am ??
(Not to mention wakin up everybody else up on the way to the motorway)

they prefere my decatted scooby to my escort, but as the richard Head up the road has a nova which is asnoisy as hell they dont actualy complain, plus the cars are street legal so there is nothing they can say, unless I happen to be reving the nuts off the escort at 8pm on a sunday night

tough! as long as you dont rev the nuts of outside their house nowt they can say! my neighbours love me starting my R1 with race system on at 7am the sound really resonates & booms nicely inside the garage

Probably the same as what my neighbours do when I get up and go out at 5am on a Sunday morning
Especially the old bid who lives directly above the tunnel driveway and who can hear a mouse sneeze at 500 yds she is so nosy
Not my fault my exhaust is a bit LOUD

Sorry Ian, I did creep down your road though, too many kids & parked cars about, plus not much to echo off, the escort is a different kettle of fish, we fired her up on open headers tonight just before taking her out against the scooby, it was monster loud, the mush accross the road came and asked if we were OK as he could not hear his TV, so I bounched her off the limiter, he went white mumbled something & scampered off.

lol, i get that. i have been told off for being late to leave, as my neighbour was relying on me waking them up, as their alarm clock had broken. Shame i was going directly to a clients, so did not have to leave so early

I have one Neighbour who now doesn't talk to me after i put a head gasket on me old 1.9 GTi. I did the "run it for a while on the drive" thing. Would have been ok, but this went on for a few nights, until i got it spot on. Again, this would have been fine, but a K&N with a dirty great Magnex seemed to disagree with him.
My answer - Get Stuffed, it's none of his biz
Edited to say 1000 posts for me i thank you.

I used to be concerned about this, until:
- senior psycho and his misses moved in to one of the flats on the ground floor (I'm on the second floor) - and started smashing windows and slamming doors @ 2am
- bass head in one of the other ground floor flats decided to play his music as loud as possible @ 2am to drown out Senior Psycho!
- student (male ) nurses moved in to a first floor flat and think karoeke is fun @ 2am on a work night..
Basically, stuff 'em... hence the Firestorm going on as soon as a couple of other bits are done... as they used to love my 5am starts on Sat/Sundays when I had the Hiper muffler on the WRX!

OK, when I first got the car it had standard downpipe and Apexi N1 center/backbox, was a bit loud, but no-one ever complained to me about it.
When I got the downpipe done, was a bit louder still, but no complaints.
Now I have the Nur Spec R on it, it's fapping loud (if the bung is out). But still no complaints.
Ok, I don't hoon it around, but I have been known to leave/return in the wee small hours, and I've never had a complaint

I consider it a fair exchange for being woken at silly hours of the morning EVERY weekend by lawnmowers, hedge trimmers etc etc. Have these people never heard of hangovers........
Besides how can a flat four burble be offensive?!

My neighbour on the right thinks my exhaust knacked and I cant afford to get it replaced.
The neighbours on the left don't complain cos:
A) She's part deaf and talks very loud when she gets excited.
B) He restores old motor bikes which sound like scoobs.
C) They come back from the pub and turn into a couple of geriatric **** stars, hammering thier headboard against the joining wall @ 1am for 5 minutes. She does scream though. EEEEEEEUUUUUUUWWWWWWW!!
I can only retaliate with a Scooby Sport / Hayward & Scott Turbo back system.
We dont have a head board and 5 minutes is a bl**dy marathon.
(Like my car I'm built to get from A-B as quick as possible.)
Apparantly I'm a demon in the twisties though.
Ste.

Had my scooby a week and the neighbours haven't said anything "yet"!! I am trying to leave the car tickin over for a minute after journeys as per the little sticker on my door. I'm sure that'll get em eventually.
What do you all think about the "tick over for a minute" thing after driving?? Waste of time or a good habit??

Sorry guys, but at the risk of bing called a boring old fart, is anoying others with the noise of our cars really the way we want to go?? One of the atractions of a Scooby for me is that it is relativly "stelthy", ie it doesnt attract the wrong sort of attention, dont we all scorn the spotty gits in their rusty XR3s with a loud pipe as a substitute for some real performance?
We dont want cars like ours and drivers like us to grouped in the general heading of "boy racers" but then we act and advocate anti-social behaivour.
I stopped thinking annoying my neighbours was funny when I was 16 and sold my FS1E!

Impret-Sir - personally I don't aim to annoy any of my neighbours - BUT, my point was that I became less concerned with it when they started being neighbours from hell.
(btw, got the hiper muffler after they started the 2am wake-up calls - and it made a difference performance wise to the tune of 30Bhp).

As long as you don't sit out side for 10 minutes at gone midnight ever night, then it wont be a problem.
The stress that can be caused be a noisy neighbour is incredible. Not all neighbours complain at the first sigh of noise and then all of a sudden they go mad and people get hurt. Just ask my ex neighbours .

Erm...my scoobie is being used as a noise deterrent.
I warm it up before I set off and cool it down when I get home again. They know the sound...and know I can replace the standard pipe with something a lot louder should anyone complain about the noise.
Works for me.
