I believe about 7litres. Mind the calibration of the fuel guage isn't very good from full to empty anyway

A MY99/00 with the 60l tank has about 20 to 30 miles when the light comes on...

Question

Have done 30 miles after light coming on in mine, and still only got 56 litres into it, so maybe even 2 gallons. DOn't really want to find out, though!

Isn't the fuel taken from the bottom of the tank all the time? (gravity and all that ) Any "crap" you pick up will actually be bits floating on the surface of the fuel, I would think.

Doesnt stop fuel starvation under heavy cornering though . Another reason to not drop below 1/4 full

I suppose its like putting sand in water and letting the water out. Yes some sand escapes when the water flows out but the last bit of water takes the majority of the sand with it. If you see what I mean .

I am still trying to decide how big the tank is! Not seen the petrol warning light come on yet, but the fuel gauge has been on empty once or twice. Do they have a 50 or 60 litre tank?

When the light comes on, if you really do have 7 litres left, then at 22mpg, it's good for less than 35 miles. Mine tends to come on with about 9+ litres left and will do about 50 miles.

Unlike all previous classic shapes, I've had none of the fuel starvation when cornering, if the car's low on juice.

it's pretty close to 10 litres left in the tank when the light comes on, i managed to get 57 litres into my car on the Rally GB, that was close.

Johns correct, its approx 10litres of fuel remaining when the light comes on, which is just over 2 gallons so should be plenty to find a garage with.

One time after the light had been on a while I put 59.5 litres in
Try to fill up when down to the 1/4 mark now...

Bob

"pretty close to 10 litres left"

Mmm, think that's very close to what I said - "9+ litres"...

Yep I will go with the 10 litres theory. My light came on the other day - drove another 15 miles and still only managed to squeeze 54 litres of optimax in.

Filled up 5 miles after light came on and it would only take 49 litres to the absolute brim. (MY02)
Calibration must be pants!
