My 99 Rough Running, Help
My MY99, 11,000 on the clock running with Induction Kit and Mongoose exhaust is running Lumpy/ Picking up poorly in all gears between 2,700 and 3000 revs.above 3000 revs it runs like a dream. Can any body Help me and throw some light on the probable cause.
Thanks Geoff
Thanks Geoff
Which Induction kit are you using ?
The problem sounds very much like the MAF sensor has failed, a common problem with 99 cars and air filters that do not filter small enough particles, or use too much oil. The HKS Induction kit was a prime example for causing this.

I had similar problem on my MY99. First happened just after I had prodrive performance pack done. But turned out to be unconnected - dealer cleaned dump valve and its been fine ever since.
PS - Geoff Painter? - as in ex-Robert Half Leeds?

If the MAF is damaged then you will get the CHECK ENGINE light coming on - if not all the time at least sporadically, especially if it is only misreading - if the MAF has failed then the engine will not work unless you disconnect it (as a safe get you home trick).
However in defence of the HKS Induction Kit - yes some cars fitted with this have had MAFs fail, but also true with Blitz, other induction kits and standard cars. The MY99 is fragile and does not seem to suffer vibration well at all.
Strangely it would seem to be the same MAF is used on all MY99 cars, including UK, Japanese, Impreza and Legacy Turbos - but it only seems to be an issue with imported cars (oh and Impreza 2.5RSs in the US).
