hmm, far too late for me but i`ll answer a couple, its your camber settings that are wrong, not the amount of toe-in if you are wearing the insides of the tires.Theres a few different specialist around that do geometry setups.

Green stuff are o.k. apparently, but how about redstuff instead, works better at higher temperatures.Personally i`d recommend Ferodo2500 or Pagid 1-4`s for fast road work.

All the best m8,

Rich.

Cool

Hi Guys,

Well, A relative newbie to the forum here, Seems like everyone know everyone, cool!

Ok, three or four weeks ago I bought my scooby, It's a 4 door '96 Turbo, and is very very sweet!!! Especially considering I am only 22! But I am happy! Ok, I have a few questions for you guys!

1) Where in the blimin' heck can i get a haynes manual for it??????

2) The previous owner had it lowered by 30mm, I have noticed I am getting uneven tyre wear, Mainly on the insides of the tyre, I am assuming it is something to do with the toe settings. What do people suggest as I would rather my tyres lasted as long as possible? It's running on 17's with Pirelli P-Zero's.

3) I want to fit a boost guage! Is this an easy job? considering I am new to poking around a scooby engine bay! Also what would be the best guage to go for?

4) What is the best oil to use? I was told I should use full-synth but the only stuff i can find at the moment is 0W/40 or 0W/50 mobile 1

5) Jesus H christ are pads expensive!!!! Ok, I new it was gonna be an expensive car to run but fecking hell! quoted £110 for set of official impreza front pads!!!! I was wondering is it worth forking out the extra money for these ones? I was also considering EBC Greenstuff pads? Anyone got any recommendations as I think I shall be needing to change them in about 1500 miles or so!!!

Cheers for any help Possible

Can anyone help on the other questions I had?

Cheers

0W/40 or 0W/50 are too thin for a Turbo.

Look for 15/50 Mobil 1 Motorsport (Halfords), Silkolene or Motul.

TSL do Silkolene, ScoobyMania sell Motul.

Some people rate Greenstuff pads, other would never fit them again. Chances are if you go to third party pads, you'll warp your standard discs pretty quickly. Consider a matched upgrade such as Pagid discs + pads or something like the TSL Group N upgrade which uses DS2500s pads with cast iron discs (Brembo?). It might be more expensive now but you'll save money in the long run.

Cool

If you had added "What MPG can I get?" I think you would have the full set of most asked questions on Scoobynet

Welcome

NEVER use a 0 rated oil in a subaru you want to look out for one of the following fully synth oils
Castrol 10w60
Mobil1 Motorsport 15w50 (available at halfords)
Motul 300v (available from scoobymania)

Uneven tyre wear is easily sorted, you need to take your car down to your local tyre place and get the tracking done

Brake pads... wouldnt really use ebc, id go for pagid or mintex, the 2500's are a good pad too as rich has pointed out

User manuals..... nope haynes dont do one, you really need to use either a subaru garage or a speciallist to maintain your cars because unless your a really good mechanic your probably going to do more bad than good (6 month service intervals remember of which normally 1 is quite expensive ie 300 quid).
Dont skimp on the servicing!

Tony

Also if you are visiting TSL you could get them to do a geometery check on the car as well. Their kit is very accurate and their set-up is highly rated.

You might also what to consider Goodyear Eagle F1s or Toyos for your next set of boots.

Hi Evilkyote

Welcome to the converted-in more ways than one!

I've got a MY 94 STI 1 and the front tyres were wearing very badly on the insides when I bought it. I took the car to PowerStation at Cheltenham and they aligned the whole suspension while I waited and cured the Scooby bump steer. The handling is outstanding now-the tyres wearing dead flat. The job was just over the cost of one tyre-bargain! The alignment kit measures in minutes, not just degrees or fractions of a millimetre so is very accurate.

I have got Eagle F1's (D3) fitted and am really happy with them. They run quietly and make a wet road feel dry!

Good luck with the car.

Les

Actually, the real 6) is this:

6) My car is a '96 N reg, now, is that a 96-98 version car or 93-96? Need to know so I get the right brake pads! Decided not to go for the greenstuff, Was thinking more about the EBC redstuff or maybe even the pagids! What's the stopping power/dust levels of those compared to the official subaru ones? after a week my shiney silver alloys end up almost black! So dust free pads would be a bonus!

Ta

evil,
i think that haynes manuals for all jap cars are unavailable.
agree with comments about the goodyear f1s - they are very impressive in the wet.
