Just a little note of warning.
Car`s check engine light came on today. Had it put out bya dealer on route to a job today but came on again later on in the day. CO2 sensor or something so its off to my local dealer on Monday after only 5 days ownwership.
Typical for me I guess, definately jinxed with motors.
PS wet weather grip is still awsome.

Is your light still on Dave???
If I get a new sensor fitted this week it sounds like the problem probably wont go away then!!!
The dealer reset the light today and the car is running fine again but it will probably come on again tomorrow.

Oh dear Arron ... no luck for you it seems.

I can see a few posts coming from you in the future now ... "WHY MY STI7 IS ****E"
Lets hope not eh!!!

Question

In the process of convincing myself to p/x the P1 in for the MY03 STi with PPP.

Is the upgrade really that good and how would you dscribe it?

Yes, well worth it, car is easier to drive, as the power delivery is smoother and more linear. It feels slower, it's only when you look at the speedo you appreciate how much quicker it is. on a handling point of view the new shell is so much stiffer than the old that the P1 is like a blancmange in comparison.

That really surprises me!

Is the body/chassis so much stiffer than the coupe P1?

It is the handling that I thought I would have to compromise when taking the new STi.

I have only had my STI for a couple of days.
It was like a rocket ship when I first got it because of a slight overboosting problem which eventually got sorted (eh Ian you owe me and no vasoline this time).
First impressions compared to the P1 are(bearing in mind I havnt driven one for a while)
1. It is indeed a much stiffer car but also does feel heavier.
2. Brakes are much better...good feel and pedal travel.
3. Under heavy braking with the 18" wheels and Pirelli Nero tyres it moves about a lot more so keeps you on your toes.
4. Pulls very cleanly right round to the 7500 red line feels like it needs 10 gears.
5. Cracking gear ratios.......bit like JF`s version 5 but more of them
6. Crap stereo.
7. Need some mud flaps.
8. Just right noise level for me at any case after having a P1 with full decat system....no headaches yet.
9. PPP transforms the car totally.....having done a back to back test with the help of Dave TS
10. Even with the light upgrade suggested by Dave the dip lights are crap. Full beam ok but need to do something with the dip for me to be happy. Dont know if any other bulbs will fit that have a higher output without burning the wireing out.
11. Basically it is what I have always said....the car the P1 should have been for less money.
PS Front diff will definately catch a lot of people out but keep your foot in and it has a "SCAREY" ammount of traction especially in the wet. Wheather they are all the same or not I dont know but my car`s grip levels with the tyres etc that I have are very good.
Still winding on the speed.....learning all the time. Roll on Bedford...oh and Ian I know you will read this ....dont forget that pipe!!
TARA.

I like mine, it is all a matter of opinion on looks, I am not saying the new shape is better than the old, that would be pushing it, but I do not consider my car to be ugly

Cheers Aaron,

Does the heavier weight affect the handling.

I am glad the brakes are better, after all, any brakes are better than the P1's

"I do not consider my car to be ugly"

Me neither. I love it now, and do prefer its looks to the old model. In terms of which's the better overall package? No probs - WRX is way better than the "Classic" shape and I owned 3 of those from April 1994...

Thumbs up

The PPP on the MY02 STi is 265 to 305 ps (more importantly 300Lbs of Torque

The MY03 is already at 280ps with the same gains PPP'd might make 325ps

Tony

Ps IMHO only guessing and no insider info

Tony

JDM STI 7 is at 280PS, so I guess the MY03 STI 8 will be that also.
The Type UK was 'detuned' to meet emissions regs so I doubt any MY03 STI type UK will be any more that the 265PS of the STI 7.

If however that is the case, then the MY03 STI PPP will need to be retested and modified in order to make it fit the MY03.

That means the first PPP'd MY03 STI's will be on the road about October next year..

The official Subaru press release for the MY03 said "Improved engine cooling for 265PS STi" and also "Meanwhile, the cooling performance of the 265 PS STi engine has benefited from a change in the shape of the intercooler water spray nozzle and the air baffle plate inside the air scoop."

Arron, if you have changed your exhaust which I presume you have, then the most likely cause of your cel will be the rear O2 sensor. This can be rectified by a small electronic gizmo... 50 quid tho.

He got the PPP fitted so wont need the o2 fix, likely to be something dislodged/knocked while PPP was fitted.

For easy fault diagnosis try looking Here.

Mr Bird sir, you need to stick xenon lamps (HID) in the dip beam. Special offer on as we speak in the lighting forum - £342

Just done mine (and had 'em before)

Ps light came on again on the way back yesterday and car doesnt pull aswell with the light on.
Still pulls but not as smooth.
Must be something to do with that pesky light.
Its brighter than the headlights.

Birdy you are a cheeky beggar LOL - and i'm probably daft enough to fit them for you too - doh

My rear 02 sensor is not working properly either......DeltaDash only recording approx .1v instead of 1v.

That's what the warranty is for

Dave,
Did your O2 sensor give any other warning of fault CEL ?? Did/has your top speed been affected by it ?

Thats the trouble with Techy bits bolted to an Exhaust the Exhaust Mechanics( Lower than low) are still using Mole grips chisels etc ot get them off LOL
