death wish
#2
Just about to buy my first Scooby - a six-month-old Sti Prodrive. Just wondered if others agree with me that I must have a death wish - am I likely to get car-jacked at gunpoint or have my house ransacked by mobsters looking for the keys? Or is all that just meeja hype?

Well, you live in Birmingham - which is bad
If you are also small of build and drive around like a **** then you will get stuffed probably
BUT
If you are a BIG Fukcer and dont call attention to yourself and park in a garage overnight you should just about see it through
By the way - you will notice people on here putting the ******* up each other (well, those with Gold Wheels mainly!! ) - ignore all the hype, its still a rare crime!

Don't worry. Things will be fine.
I've had my scooby six months now and have had no problems. Just take a few security precautions like locking the doors when your stationary at traffic lights and using alarms/immobilisers etc.
If someone wants to nick it, let em have it and claim on the insurance! At least that way you should stay alive:-)

Came back from the test drive a couple of weeks ago and couldn't wipe the grin off my face for days. This is what driving's all about. Can't wait to get the keys. Could lead to divorce though - wife wants a Beemer.......

You'll love it!!! and so will she
It just requires the discipline of being careful. Careful to lock, careful to be aware what's going on around you, careful to ensure the tracker contract hasn't expired (tho' I guess you get a reminder....haven't got to the end of year 1 myself yet) and careful not to leave attractive kit on the seats or otherwise visible.
Many people take supplementary security measures - I have a gearbox deadlock, for example, and many people swear by a disklock. Some use a bit of kit called blackjax (use SN search for threads on this). Extra expense probably isn't welcome right now, but it may be worthwhile - it's up to you.
But don't let worry spoil your enjoyment.
Enjoy!

Love the replies....
You'll be fine! Just get a steering wheel lock, a Tracker installed, a category quadruple A alarm system, bullet proof windows, touch pad sensors fitted around the driveway, a panic button installed under the dash board linked to Scotland Yard, two body guards, re-write your will, move to Rekjavik, only drive it every other leap year...
The most hassle I have got is from the local plod. OK, maybe a few BMW drivers and the odd RS fan

Okay, okay, so maybe I'm a little paranoid. But there was that bloke from Dudley who got shot in the leg by some gangstas who drove off in his Scoob. Won't happen to me though........

If you worry about it too much, it'll spoil the experience. Just take care with simple precautions i.e. dont leave the doors open at the petrol station blah blah...
The only problem I've had is some one follow me once (o'dear the paranoia is stirring in folks now!!) - but turned out to be someone who was genuinely interested in the car - another SN member! Mind you I purposely parked on someone elses drive, not my own, much to the neighbours amusement.

I use to be really parnoid that my Scoob might get done, and that spoilt it for me for a while then I thought it's insured, so don't worry about it, all though it didn't stop me going out in the middle of the night to my garage with a torch when I heard a car alarm going off, Just enjoy the car.
Cheers

The dogs are all trained fire-fights.
On a serious note the dogs will let you into the grounds like they are your best friends with waggy tails and floppy tounges, then try to leave!
They have been trained to detain 'outsiders' until I or the police arrive.

As for the film stuff , i have a friend who does car sercurity. Yeah you can smash the window and it does stay in one piece. then that one piece pushes nicely (with some persuasion) into the car making no mess.

Clip on steering wheel? Not to good to walk around the shops with though
Pete, that is heavy, I should think that you probably generate your own gravity like a small asteroid
