Newbie Question
#1
Ive had a MY01 WRX for 5 months and loved every second of it. I recentley noticed in 4th and 5th that after the turbo kicks in the power seems to come in wave after wave. The effect is not that obvious but is bugging me now. Should i be dusting off my warranty or is this normal ?
Any advice would be helpful.

I'm no expert and pretty much a newbie too, but you should bear in mind that the peak power comes in quite high, so you've got a few waves for starters..:
turbo not spooled up below 2500, = base
turbo spools up and kicks in at 3000 ish, = wave 1
max power at 5600? = wave 2
power drops off after 5600 = end of wave 2
Is that what you mean? Check out the dyno graphs for examples...

The waves are more frequent than just one or two as you up the revs. This morning it was doing it in 3rd.Aghhhhhhhhhhh! Its like every second it goes, stops, goes, stops etc. Garage time me thinks.

Sounds like it’s could be hesitation or may be your getting fuel cut or premature over boost. Some times the pipe network that connects the wastegate and boost solenoid and the parts them self’s can get dirty, usually caused by over filling of oil at service. The contamination can cause false readings and open the wastegate prematurely. Get down to the dealer and don't take any sh?t, their usual response is "they all do that sir".
Cheers.

I used to get hesitation when I first got my car. I found out the seller had put in 95 ron fuel. I then filled up with SUL and the hesitation was much less but still present. Now I use NF octane booster and Optimax. Now there's no hesitation whatsoever. (Jap spec import)

try being extremely gentle on the throttle, don't jsut floor it, move it progressively down as you get faster. See if it makes a difference.
If I floor my car it just cuts the boost or cuts something, but if I'm careful on the throttle it flys.
