i have recently bought a 96 sti3, can anyone shed some light on the following.
1. what make of shox does a standard sti come on, mine has ohlins on all corners, are these standard?
2.how do i check if the car has had the ecu modified, it is fitted with an apexi super afc fuelling controller, am i right in thinking that this would be a bit of a pointless mod if the engine was standard?
3.finally do the sti's come with a small round sti badge (about the size of a £1 coin)fitted on to the left of the centre console.

Anybody know.

Cheers

1. The standard shocks are I don't know what manufacturer they are but Ohlins is probably the most expensive and the best setup a car can have, so your very lucky to have these on.

2. check in the passenger footwell and lift the carpet, if the footplate has been removed or tampered then its likely to have been played with. You can remove this and examine whats in the ECU Holder, normally a silver ECU Box thats got STI and japanses writing on it. It sounds as though someone has upped the boost and fitted the AFC to compensate for extra boost so its not a useless mod if the boost hasn't been raised. Get yourself a Boost Gauge or put it on a Rolling Road to find out.

3. This one im not sure of, the STI3's have a carbon cockpit surround and the Steering wheel has STI in carbon mat in the centre of it.

Harj...

PS. You can check for more validity by looking at SIDC.co.uk

HI

Re point 3, no. Look for red manifold cover, sti logo behind front wheel arches, and the standard carbon fibre effect dash, sti steering wheel and seats etc.

Cool

John,

Check the chassis number against the FAQ in the SIDC website. My STi3 doesn't have a carbon surround on the dash. Small STi badge might be from the centre of the Nardi gear **** - has someone maybe replaced the gear **** and kept the badge ?

Kevin.

It's easy to tell an sti2 from a 3: The 2 had the intercooler at an angle to the intake scoop, on the sti3 it is parallel to the scoop. I understand that the front of the car was cosmetically different too..
I don't have that small badge on my sti2 centre console.
Hope this helps..
