S202 what makes it kick out 325bhp
#1
Does anyone know the spec on the new S202, I have seen it advertised as 325 bhp and also in excess of 350 bhp ( see Top Marques this week ). Presumably it has an STi spec motor and some lightening of the body but how have they achieved 325+ bhp?

I think it has something to do with the uprated ecu and lighter panels and slightly different top mount i/c. Also has an oil cooler. That thing must be running within a micromillimeter of detonation in japan on jap fuel! Imagine how long one would last in UK?????

My mates got an S202 in WR blue, it has no boot carpet, passenger sunvisor, electric mirrors, side skirts and it didnt even have a stereo or speakers! (not that you need one with that exhaust note ) V quick car and the quick steering rack on them is great too.
here it is at northern meet 7:

Ian,
The main reasons (as far as I’ve been able to find out) are the special ‘sport’ ECU, Revised inlet cam profile, larger air filter, more efficient Turbo combined to an exhaust system finished off with a Titanium Muffler, Oil Cooler, & ‘other’ revised engine internals (?). It's officially quoted by STi as being 320BHP, it's certainly 'not' 350BHP.
The car is all about power to weight & chassis finesse /feel which is reflected in the amount of new parts fitted to the cars suspension. The whole of the front geometry is different to ‘normal’ STi’s.
The good news apparently is that the new ‘face lifted’ car for next year features some of the S202’s front suspension. The front sub frame and mounts being reinforced with the addition of what’s known as a ’cross performance bar’. Sounds good but the best bit is the way it virtually eliminates the scoobs tendency to want to understeer hard under quick cornering. The new car doesn’t get the Quick Steering STi Rack, which is a real shame because it’s effect on the 22B and S202 are unbelievable.
It wouldn’t win any beauty contests but that’s to miss the point.
A point worth making is that the new PPP for the U.K. STi gives a better Torque figure than both the S202 & 22B. All U.K. STi owners who are going to splash out on the PPP will & should enjoy the benefits, they won't be dissapointed with the way it'll transform the car.

The Spec C runs a different turbo to the standard which helps it put out 320bhp-ish - this is the VF34 - it larger cover for greater efficiency. IIRC this is the same as the S202, but I can't put my hand on my spec sheet at the mo.
There are a couple of these for sale in Scoobyshop last time I looked
