Thumbs up

If you have had piston slap on a MY97/98 fixed by Subaru for free, please could you help me.

Taking mine into Subaru dealer in Bournemouth (Chapelgate)to try and get them to fix my piston slap as a manufacturer's defect,

How did you presuade your Subaru dealer to do the fix?
Who did you have to speak to if the dealer wasn't forth coming?
What excuse's did you use?

Any help would be appreciated

Dave

I thought I was pushing it a couple of years ago when my '98 Turbo went in at 2years 11months old with 34K on the clock for a short block engine (to cure piston slap) and clutch (to cure judder) replacment.

Now, with 98K on the clock you've got nae chance

But in answer to your question, it seemed to depend on the dealer. The previous main agent in Aberdeen fobbed me off with some BS. When the present main agent took over after the first lot went bust, I mentioned the piston slap when the car went in for a service. They agreed and it was then booked in. Then on the morning it went in for the piston slap, I mentioned in passing the clutch judder. They phoned back a few hours later saying that they agreed and that it would be replaced FOC. Down the years reading about other people's experiences it seems I had it easy.

I'm waiting for my MY00 with PPP to come back to me after having the four pistons, and cylinder heads replaced as result of piston slap.

The car has 90,000 miles on the clock, and although I took out the extended warranty, they will only pay £1100 towards the total cost of the repairs, which is close to £3000, as some of the failed parts, such as the cracked cylinder heads are not covered. The failed pistons were covered though.

Steve...

The dealer approved warranty mentions cylinder heads as being covered but excludes cracks and also de-coking.

In know, I would be grateful if someone could explain it to me why, as at the moment I'm deep out of pocket.

It all boils down to the fact that the Dealer Approved Warranty (ie taken out after 60000 miles) does not offer the same level of cover as the original 3yr/60000 mile warranty, although this is not made perfectly clear.

The same level of cover is only provided if the extended warranty is taken out before the end of the 3yr/60000 mile warranty.

I cocked up on this and am now paying for it.

Mine is a long story which I'm in the process of trying to sort. Will let every one know what happens when I know what is happening.

Gareth
