Tricky. Bumpers are there for pedestrians as well, and not having one may present sharp edges that otherwise would be hidden - Contrary to "Construction & Use" regulations.
I once took the front bumper off a previous car to save labour charges when having something fixed at a garage. I asked my dad who's a policeman if it'd be ok, and he said yes - BUT...
1. Number plate still had to be affixed in full view at the front - I used some tape.
2. Car should only be travelling on its way to "rectification" (ie. to be fixed). It should be booked in, in case you have to provide evidence. Which doesn't sound like it applies in this case, coz you'll be driving back.
3. Other nuggety problem is missing front indicators. So make sure you start hand-signalling if you see the law!!!
Any help??

I would expect the Old Bill stopping you mate and giving you some points and a fine as its deemed dangerous for a car without a bumper incase you hit any pedestrians or have a colision with another car.
I would like to see there faces when they see your front mount hanging on LOL
My advice mate, get yourself a cheap hire car like Easy Jet Hire or something for a couple of days as its not worth the risk.

a bit of fibreglass reconstruction to do. plus, he is going on holiday, adn I wanted it started before he goesd away, as I can't bear to look at the car whilst it is broken.
So it will be sitting bumper less, in my parents driveway whilst I drive a suzuki sj410 for three weeks.

Adam,
Drive 22b to your Dad's place, remove the bumper and drive it over to the repairer in another vehicle, job jobbed. Oh yes, and I'm sure you can find someone who could help you remove the bumper if you aren't sure about doing it yourself.

Can anyone tell me what the potential 'police' implications are of driving without a front number plate and having it inside the car on view...
Its not an endorsable offence is it?
Can they fine you - or is it either a warning, or get yourself to an 'MOT' place with a certificate that you've put a front number plate on......

IMHO if you hit a pedestrian with a bumper on your car their going to be a mess so what difference does it make? also I can't understand the mentality of making bullbars illegal on landrovers/4x4 etc due to them being hazardous to pedestrians if you hit them, if you get hit by a landrover I don't fancy your chances much anyway

Depends on the copper involved. He's well within his rights to give points or a "producer" or both, etc - Thanks to contradicting "Construction & Use" regulations. But every bu66ered about with number-plate in the country is illegal anyway...So it's up to you!
