Personally, I think we'd better off without companies like Claims Direct and the like. No one wins from ambulance chasing IMHO.

I'll have to lookup details on this Tracksure jobbie, but here's a scenario...

You lend you car to friend who has 3rd party for other cars on his own insurance. Said friend is 'seen' speeding by the GPS. How do you prove it wasn't you speeding?

Axa have obviously been brainwashed that lower speeds = better driving. Never mind eh?

Tillinghurst-Towers Perrin has reported that motor insurance premiums are rising at ‘stratospheric’ rates. Since it began monitoring the sector in January 1999 premiums have risen 52%. The latest annualised figure is 24%. A less competitive market and hyper-inflation rises in costs to insurers of settling injury claims are to blame for the rises.

 Some new entrants to the motor insurance markets are quoting as little as half the premiums offered by established insurers, says broker Taylor Price Direct Choice. They comment that with the market only now starting to move into profit some of these rates will be unsustainable.

Claims Direct is prepared to take legal action to force insurance companies to meet the cost of its ‘after the event’ legal insurance when its clients win their personal injury cases. A Court of Appeal judgement said such premiums could be recovered, but not by how much.

Insurance companies may be able to cap increases in motor insurance premiums when the new database giving police direct access to insurance records goes live in September. Currently one in ten drivers of private cars has no insurance.

NU is planning to increase motor insurance premiums by up to 16% and home insurance by 4%. Commercial policies are increasing by 20% and 8% respectively. It said the increases were to combat the problem of ‘claims inflation’.

AXA Ireland has introduced Tracksure, a device that claims will reduce accidents and premiums. The scheme is being targeted at 20 to 24 year old male drivers. If they promise to drive within the speed limits at all times AXA will give a 45% discount from day one. GPS equipment is then installed to monitor the location and speed of the car.

Moneysupermarket.com has launched a new channel on its website to allow motorists to shop around for insurance policies. The motor section will consist of around 400 products and 35 providers.

Just incase anyone is interested

That is really scary, presumably they could then report you to the police for speeding and in so doing driving with no insurnance

I hate to turn to mammon at this time, but todays events will have a knock effect with many of us as the Insurance payout is likely to be in excess of $10bn, much of which was carried in London.

We'll all end up paying for this disgustly thoughtless act.
